It’s hard to imagine why the plus isn’t going to be ready at launch. It’s not a new form factor, and most all the parts will be recycled from older phones. Definitely a head scratcher for me, as I’m assuming it would sell more than the 4.7”.

Not necessarily. There are plenty of options for big iPhones. On the smaller end, it's either a 2-3 year old iPhone 8 or $1000 for 11 Pro if one's not interested in going the used/ebay route.
Someone okay with 5.5" would probably be more willing to transition to the $700-750 iPhone XR/11 or even XS/11 Pro Max.
For those who are already stretching to accommodate 4.7" (up from 4" 5/5s), spending $1000 on the iPhone Xs/11 Pro just to get a more acceptable size might be an unreasonable expense. Indeed, had a 5.8" version of the XR/11 been released at $600-700, I probably would've upgraded already for dual SIM (back when travel was still possible 😛).

It may come with the A13 but I’m sure the cameras will be XR. If that’s the case would it still be the best bang for the buck?

If it gets the A13 it gets the latest main lens camera. If it gets the A12 and XR Camera, it won’t be relevant enough in an age where camera tech is one of the most talked about aspects of any smartphone.
Not disagreeing, that’s just my own view
the bigger phone will be bigger in price than the smaller SE, the market right now is very price conscious

It’s gotta have iPhone 11’s main camera with Night mode. This way Apple gets some selling points to work with. Otherwise A13 alone ain’t gonna cut it for that dated design in this day and age of bezelless oled phones with 3-4-5 cameras and 5G support months away from becoming universal.

The SE got the latest camera tech when it came out. It stands for Special Edition. What’s special about an old design and old tech?! Nothing. It’s basically an 8 again which won’t stand the test of time in sales going forwards.

Just to reiterate your thread title, I would pose the question, ‘how many consumers actually even know anything about this new phone coming’? Let’s try like 0%. On sites like this, we’re all very aware, especially if you’ve been following John Prosser.
The only thing I care about with this phone, is where Apple has it priced. The specs’ will probably be appropriate enough for someone to upgrade to in terms of what they can afford. It has to start at 399, or at least very close (429). It has three storage options, which would put the base at 399, then 449 and then 499. If it starts at 499 then the most expensive option is going to be basically 600 which is far too much for a phone with this design in 2020.

That is an option, but even at the current iPhone 8 prices - a device that wasn't selling, its a harder sale.

Apple don't. Other retailers do. It's the one iPhone that until the past few weeks has been available in every colour, every storage option with zero wait, in my country at least. Plus if the 8 was selling well enough, they wouldn't bother changing it.

Ok, so your reference point is one retailer in one market and you base this solely on that retailer having stock available. Got ya. Doesn’t seem to be too accurate a measurement but it might give you one pointer/ data point. Thanks for your response.

I still think 64 GB would be vastly popular, not because It’s the cheapest ‘entry level’, 64 GB is still plenty sufficient for a large amount of consumers. Unless you’re somebody that’s really heavy into 4K video/gaming applications, there’s quite a few members even on this site who can survive on 64 GB who know how to manage it appropriately.

I've been surviving on 32GB for over a year. I only recently ran out of storage, and I just uploaded all of my pictures and videos to Google Photos and deleted them from my phone 🙂

Hard to say for sure until take aparts compare the individual components. Having an entire different body shell likely also comes with more differences in components like the battery for example. Colours and storage space are other potential differentiators.

Well the XR and 11 are already different...
So presumably it’s the 11 internals in the 8 body, I guess that’s what makes it an exciting option.

This should be a good practical phone, for people like my mom, who just needs a new iPhone without the bells and whistles. This release is geared toward people who just want a regular phone.

I can agree with this. I don't need a phone that can do much more than communicate using varying means (both traditional cellular and via social media), do a quick Google search when I can't access a computer, and snap a quick photo or two. I have many different Macs of varying ages to do fancier things like gaming, content creation and et cetera on and I'm an avid photographer with dedicated cameras for taking pictures. I own the first gen SE right now and it suits my needs perfectly. 🙂
