the magnetic latches may not add much to the MBP, but less movable/breakable parts = good

the keyboards may be just a matter of taste and it's ok if you dont like the new ones, but i would expect apple to "standarize" their keyboards... and besides, im getting used to the bluetooth kb so i would like it if the new MBP has the same feel

and regarding the current design.. i agree with everybody that the current one is really sexy and maybe the best looking notebook available, but leave it up to apple and their design team to make something beautiful even better... as an example see the white imac vs the new ones... when the whites came out they where sexy as hell and they didnt "need" any redesign, but put the white and aluminum side by side and they look 10 years appart....

Don't get me wrong, I like the 'type' of keyboard, just not the black/silver combination

yeah i agree with you... the black keys do look weird... but the "style" of the keys is almost obvious that should change to the new one...

Can someone explain to me the difference b/w the current MBP keyboard and the new MBA keyboard? Just looking at it, it looks like it won't feel good. For some reason, I like the curved key surface, not those Scrabble-letter looking keys. Are they, in fact, better to type with? Any resources that you can point me to to learn more/be convinced?

I have used one of the new aluminium keyboards briefly (my work has one), and they're not bad. They might just take some getting use to. I think again, it's hugely down to personal preference I guess. I would imagine that you may be able to replace the keyboard (and surround) with a current one, but this is just purely speculation

OK, there's an explanation I can understand. I was just trying to figure out if some people saw a design flaw in the mechanical latches I wasn't seeing.

A magnetic latch might also fix the case warping that's plagued the Pro machines since the original 1.Ghz Aluminium PowerBook.

I'm still trying to find out what advantage magnetic latches have over the current design, which works very well. Explain, please?

Well, I have a MB at the moment, and apart from liking the 'less moving parts = less can go wrong', the maglatches actually work really well.

Given that the MBA also has the maglatches, I expect the entire notebook line to have them.

EDIT: Basically the same points as El Phantasmo above.

Looking at their history am I wrong to assume that Apple is not usually in the habit of redesigning their Laptops?

It seems instead they just come out with a new line of laptops, like the Air and the design they are introduced with just stays locked until the line is discontinued.

I mean, the design of the Pro goes back for how long exactly? Really long I believe I heard it mentioned once, like over 4 years. Even the switch to Intel did not change the design, so why should Monteniva or whatever change that?

Surely the current case can easily incorporate a potentially larger trackpad without any dramatic changes made to its design.

Also I imagine that for the last year or so Jobs and that other fella have been too preoccupied with Apple's new pet projects like the iPhone and Air to be able to focus on giving the Pro the complete overhaul that many expect from it. The same with the Aluminium MacBook everyone is anticipating.

I mean just look at how Leopard suffered when Apple pulled most of their top engineers to focus on iPhone for a year or so instead of Leopard. Not only was it delayed but even now with one full update I still feel it is so buggy and has so many issues that I feel ashamed trying to recommend XP users to switch to it.
