I can't think of how many times I hold open the door for people (young and old) and I barely get a thank you (I'm a girl too ). I always thank people who do the same for me.

I have actually had people swear at me for holding the door for them. somehow I was implying I was better than them
today guy on crutches with leg in one of those massive cover whole leg casts, hold the door open for him since we both going same way, snaps at me he doesn't need help... not taking it personally I have broken enough bones to know how the pain can make person irritable. though I bet if I just walked through the door with out holding it he would have snapped at me for being selfish
You go well out of your way for people and you get stuff all in return.
At work, when people make there coffee, they leave the spoons lying around the place and don't bother to clean them or the coffee mugs are left on benches were we have to repair computers. But thats alright someone will clean the mess! Yeah he will do it we will just sit down and take it easy.
You bust you ass to keep the place clean, and you end up getting yelled at by your boss for a messy work environment.

This irritates me no end. I always hold the door for people - anyone - who's behind me. Most people say thank you, but then you get people who breeze right through, nose in the air, and keep going. Or, give you a rotten look.
