What about us?

Hey,

Would you stop complaining about Canada? At least, maybe you get the product at the same time as the US (iPhone excepted), or maybe not?

I mean in Europe, we have - I think - 1, in London, and 1 planned for years in Munich.

Several explanations:
  • Apple computers are afraid of ship transportation
  • Apple does not support societies that have chosen soccer as the mainstream sport
  • Maybe Apple does not support Monarchies as a type of government, that would explain the lack of Apple store in Canada and the only one in GB
  • Maybe Steve Joves doesn't have a valid passport (as several million Americans who don't travel abroad)
:D

Ok, the truth is, no idea...but we are all waiting. I am tired of :apple: resellers that get rid of their old stocks weeks after the release of new products....

It takes time for Apple to expand. I've read rumors on other sites that an Apple store is coming to Edmonton, Alberta. Apparently they're in the process.

If Apple ever puts a Apple Store in western/central Canada, I'll be first to line up.:D

Having one in Vancouver (in late 2008-2009) is great, but for us people who live in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northern Ontario and the territories, there is no reliable, good store. At least I haven't found one yet.:(

Oh well, finally we have one outside of Ontario and Quebec.

One is on the way in Edmonton:

Its AAALLL because we still love brittian, ISN'T it? Damn americans and their love of coffee!!! They should have just left the tea ALONE! Buuuut nooooooooo.

So NOW we have to deal with no apple stores. Evil cruel world of ours.

Pssst...current UK store count is 13, with another 3 announced ;)

I can see why Apple are so keen on the UK market. It's the one place in the world where everyone fleeces the consumer and we still put up with it. ££££ to be made.

Huh?

I live in the uk but my sister lives in canada (saskatchewan) she told me once she has to travel miles to the nearest apple store and reckons it sucks

How many places worth going to in Canada DON'T require traveling MILES?

It's got to make business sense or they won't do it.

If their model depends on 1 million or 1.5 million people in the market, they'll go into those markets and avoid the rest.

They've probably determined that the best outcome... for Apple... is to use resellers in markets that are at a minimum size.

Actually, about 200 million Americans do not have a passport and likely an equal or greater number never travel abroad.

Thanks for the figure! Although there is nothing wrong about staying in the US, I would like Apple to offer those 200m people an excuse to travel abroad, see the real Venice or Paris instead of the Las Vegas replicas...
Steve, can you please reverse your current strategy, forget the outrageously unfair exchange rates...and make your hardware cheaper in EU than in the US ? :D

I went to the ones in Vegas too. Very funny to hear Americans telling their wives how Venice, France was so lovely, and even better was the "oh my god it's so beautiful" comments at the top of the half-height Eiffel Tower....overlooking the Airport :D

Don't forget the Apple Store in Rome too. That makes 14 total in Europe.
Two more about to open in Switzerland too. Zurich and Geneva.

At least, Apple appear to be hiring for them.

haha

Lots, but only because we use KILOMETRES here. :D

Silly Canadiens, clinging to the outdated "metric" system. I mean, what is a centimeter, anyway? At least I know an inch is a king's thumb and a foot is, well, the length of a king's foot. Geez.

Actually, about 200 million Americans do not have a passport and likely an equal or greater number never travel abroad.

And why would we? We have recreated nearly every major international landmark. Going to Vegas is akin to traveling the world! ;)

I'm waiting for The Uluru to open, shaped like a giant Opera House and Harbour Bridge perched on top of a big red rock, featuring a there-and-back roller coaster named The Boomerang :D

And with dancing kangaroos on stage every night.

Dude, Spokane isn't even a real city. No way they have enough population density and high wage earners to support an Apple Store. Besides, people are willing to drive to seattle for quite a bit. See Ikea.

I agree Spokane isn't a bit city, but if you look at the map, you'll see a giant gaping hole between Seattle and the next biggest city east of Spokane. It could draw canadians. Additionally, there are 500,000 in the greater Spokane area, and another couple hundred thousand just 15 miles away in Idaho that are very upscale.

I really think Spokane *Could* support an Apple store.

Yeah, I know the territory. I grew up in Kent and went to college in Pullman.

I think the biggest problem with Spokane is that it's too spread out (like everything in Eastern Washington). Maybe a mini store is in order?

How about the university stores? You Canadians got any of those? I went to college in a town with a population of 60,000. We had an Apple "mini" store on campus. Granted, they didn't have everything a true Apple store had but it was better than nothing.

Yep we do. I agree, it is still better than nothing but would be nice to have a retail store.

My local university has a campus reseller, but nothing I would designate a "mini-(Apple) store." The Apple products do get prime display space, but the full-fledged reseller across town carries way more merchandise and accessories.

They are opening in Edmonton in July @ West Edmonton Mall.

Dude, in a business sense it is TRUE.
Our entire population is 33,390,141
California's population is 36,457,549

We are small.

Actually, I think you just supported the opposite argument...Canada and California have roughly the same population, but Canada has 4 stores, California has 38. There is something seriously wrong with that...

Oh, I live in Ottawa - you remember Ottawa...metro population of 1.3 million...Silicon Valley North, major high-tech focus...capital of the whole stinking country...and no Apple store.

(I'm not bitter.)
