The new update will be the largest performance improvement in Macbook History. Thats why Im waiting.

Agreeded...sold my early 2008 yesterday...so I am laptopless!! I have a 32GS iPhone and iMac Desk Top and will not buy a new laptop untill the refresh because I know it will be soon... if nothing but a little speed bump?

i guess the threadstarter just realized it was the wrong decision (for him) buying a 17" mbp 4 weeks ago (and now he wants to hear his decision was the right thing to do)

so
sad

:(

Because getting the current one is like getting a 2 year old computer for a higher price than a current one

this, quite honestly. who wants to pay for specs that were great in 2008? its 2010, and there is zero excuse to pay a lot of money for technology that is a few years old.

Chevy vs. Ford
Honda vs. Toyota
Intel vs. AMD (I used to like AMD more back when they had the superoverclockable athlon xp series)
NVidia vs. ATI (ATI cards have always produced less artifacts and better drivers than nvidia for me)
Can-am vs. Polaris (have never used either one)
Leno vs. Dave (Dave's jokes are too old for me)
Mac vs. Windows (Only cuz more software is compatible with windows.. i might get flamed for this on this site, but it's my opinion lol. Mac OS definitely looks sexier though)

Ummm... yeah. Your love of Toyotas and their sticking gas peddles that will send you careening off a cliff into a watery abyss exludes you from the conversation. However, maybe your love of 'windows' will allow you to escape once that happens. :p

I'm waiting for a huge number of reasons:

1) I'm a smart consumer and always make sure I'm getting the best "bang for the buck" - this means not buying at the end of a cycle

A smart consumer doesn't buy at the beginning of a cycle either. The smartest move would be to wait until Apple works out the inevitable bugs that will be reported with the new machines -- especially after a major architecture change.

Well, I didn't say I was going to buy the instant it came out, either. :)

I'm new to apple service but wouldn't they help you with the problems? Wouldn't they replace your system or something?

Is this really the biggest improvement in MacBook history??

It is worth pointing out, the only people that will seriously notice the boost are multimedia professionals and hardcore gamers. And even then, it is a boost.

Everybody else can relax. It does make sense to wait if you can, but if you can't - well, a few years ago, an old processor and limited RAM could potentially kill you, as the web was rapidly getting richer and more complicated. But with the proliferation of smart phones, netbooks and low-powered tablets like the iPad...things are actually getting optimized for lower-power computing. The web, productivity software, and even operating systems. It is unlikely most people are going to be feeling squeezed by their Core2Duo machines anytime soon.

I know know why people are waiting for the new arrandale its getting pretty annoying. The current model is fine fast enough for the average and experienced user. Is it that you want whats new? I dont get it. Also you guys should just wait for Apple to make a release before all this guessing on when its comming out and what is has of course its gonna be better cause its a new product

Exactly =)

The simple answer to your question is this: This will be my first Mac. I don't NEED it right now, as my existing windows laptop, though frustrating, still works for what I need it to do. If I'm gonna plop down $2k for another computer, I want the latest. Period.

I am waiting because I do not NEED the macbook until I start school which is not for a few months for me now. So I can afford to give it a few months but if there is nothing by the time that I have to go, I will get the current model.

Much as I would like one right now I can afford to give it a awhile before I go and plunk down the money.

Maybe, maybe not. Some problems, like the display problems reported on the new iMac 27 inch machines, take quite awhile to get addressed. In my case, my June 2009 MBP is reported to have a problem with the SATA interface that can cause communication problems with third-party hard drives. This problem was discovered within weeks of the release of the new model. Apple has never acknowledged this problem. I will find out whether this affects me when the day comes for me to replace the stock drive with one having more storage. The lesson I learned is that I will never purchase an Apple product until it's been sold for a few months and the major problems have surfaced.

Pretty bold claim considering we don't even know what processor will be in the "refresh" - it could be i3's in 13"/15" machines and i5 in the 17" for all we know.

It's becoming harder for me to tell myself to wait, but I would mainly prefer to hold off until at least June to make sure the refreshed models don't have any unexpected issues (a la 27" iMac)

Plus I'd like to get more than 3 months of use out of my 13" before I trade up. :(

lol, I see that the OP has not bothered to respond to the many reasons people has given.

Come back OP!, you are still welcome in your own thread!
