So I have had the issue with a dropped call from holding it on that spot even when I was thinking about trying not to hold it like that; but to be honest it's somewhat difficult since I am left handed just doesn't seem natural in my right hand and my palm ends up covering up the connection. But what I did was just pulled out the headphones and microphone and used those for now wasn't a big deal for me. I'm one of the most cynical people alive but I am willing to at least give them time to try and fix this issue before I destroy a company that up to this point has always been good to it's customers. I guess this is the curse of being Apple when you have the fan base they have and put out such good products when something goes wrong those same passionate customers are ready to bury you as fast as they love you.

Very well said!

Yeah, I'll wait for this first update and see what Apple can do. I don't care if they fake the bars or not. I haven't ever paid attention to the bars and won't after this fix. I am basing this strictly on practical usage.

As long as I can complete a phone call without it dropping in my home and office (like I have been able to for the past 3 years with previous iPhones) they will keep my business and I will remain a faithful supporter.

Maybe I am in a super low reception area. But I cannot even put the iPhone 4 in my pocket without dropping and missing calls. Keeping flat on a table, or out in the open in my car, seems to be the only way I keep reception.

So I look forward to a fix that makes this phone as reliable as my 2G and 3GS.

Is there any real proof that shows that Apple (or Steve Jobs) actually said this other than some faceless blogger or poster that showed an email response? Just asking.

Theres overwhelming evidence that he did. MULTIPLE people received similar emails from Jobs. Sounded just like what he would say, even if he were already working on a fix, now that I think about it.

Maybe I'm new here... Maybe only negative stuff is allowed here... I don't know. But I need to say this.

I don't seem to have the antenna issue. I have to wrap the phone very unnaturally and wait about five full minutes to lose three out of five bars. Tried it everywhere in Rochester, NY. Maybe I'm lucky. Obviously there is an issue here. BUT...

I've had issues with Apple stuff before. I had an iMac with a dead HD after two months. The camera went bad on my original iPhone 2G after six months. The optical drive in my MacBook died after a year... And yah know what? Apple ALWAYS made it right. That's why I buy all their stuff. Mistakes happen. JD Power rates them #1 for customer service FOR A FREAKING REASON!!! Why is no one willing to just give them a couple weeks to figure out what to do? They've had issues before and fixed them. Why are we so quick to ignore their track record and freak the hell out? It's bewildering to me.

Yes, Steve's email response was EPICALLY STUPID but he's one man who was probably having a VERY bad day. If this issue still exists in a month with no resolution... hand me a pitchfork and I'll join the angry mob. But right now??? A few days out??? Just chill out for a few days and see what happens!!!

The Nexus One had a similar issue and it took almost six months to fix. My bet is that it will take Apple less than one. I doubt many of you will bet against that if you let your anger pass and think about it logically.

You said it right in your post, I think it was Job's insensitive, arrogant, and borderline insulting response of telling people they are not holding a phone right that has fueled this problem past typical first run issue to massive fail. If he had just said something like, "were looking into it" things would probably be different. This phone aint cheap, but Jobs response was.

The first day I had my new phone, I could get it to drop bars pretty easily, no dropped calls but significant signal loss if that was even accurate.

I am on my third day and it just seems like everything on this bitchen new phone is getting better and faster. I have tried like a fiend today in many different locals to get it to drop bars and nada, it holds strong, even at home. So I am more than willing to give these guys a chance, they make it right 99% of the time.

From how I feel about it, there are two different user groups who buy and use Apple Products.

1. The fan club that is totally gear oriented, maybe have cubicle jobs, but either way, center their life around tech. You know, the ones that nearly run into you while on their smart phone crossing a busy street because they think they just can't live without devices.

2. The people who have lives that could otherwise do without tech entirely but now have to engage in it to some degree because society has made it practically mandatory to know the language. These people love Apple products because they get the job done swiftly and with a minimum of gear junkie homework. Apple products get the job done so well, these people relish in the fact that they spend *less* time on devices rather than more.

I fall into the latter category, the less time I have to spend on a computer, phone, device, the better life is. The other thing I like about Apple products is that they are what I consider very important in my life: Art. And since that is what I do for a living, if I have to spend any time on a device, the least it could do is inspire me by sheer virtue of it's design.

So perhaps Apple goofed up the antennae design in the name of art, worse things have happened in my life so I am willing to see them make this right.

I sincerely hope all of us get the product we expected from Apple, no matter what course of action that takes. But lets give them a chance and see what happens.

I don't seem to have the antenna issue.

And this exactly why you made this ridiculous thread. Because YOU are not having this problem. I'm sure you would be singing a much different tune if you did. Try to see it other people's way, not just your own.

People have been waiting months to get this phone. There has been some much hype around it. Jobs also hyped the new antenna design. So, we get our phones. Right out of the box, we notice problems with the phone reception. And we're not supposed to be very upset. How about this: those of you without the antenna problem, be very grateful and then stop telling people how they should react because you're far from walking in our shoes.

And if you think we're destroying a company, think again. It's Apple's poor quality control measures that have done the most damage. For God's sake, I was trying to talk to my boss about being late for a meeting when the call dropped. Sure, I did the damage by being late, but "hanging up" on my boss did even more.

Seriously???? You're comparing your phone problems to THAT????

And complaining is one thing but when I've said I had no problem with mine, I was told I was lying! I started this thread and was told I must work for Apple! Some people here are out of their freaking gourds!!!

seriously, nobody opened a thread to stop you say good things about your new iphone. It was you who just opened a thread to blame people who is having issues with the phone that they just paid big dollar for. People who is complaining are victim. Apple even didn't apology for their mistake. do you think this is the right thing to do?

The cult of the anti-Apple that will exaggerate all fails aside, the legitimate perception as I understand it, is that Apple released this iPhone with knowledge of the problem. Yet they are asking $30 for this optional accessory, knowing it is more like a necessity for the flawed design of the phone. That may not be accurate, but it's a perception I believe behind the intense angst.

It's kind of like going to someone's house and knocking over a precious item, then sweeping it under the rug. When the person finds it, you say, "Get some glue. Here's some for $30."

Not only that, but Apple has been getting not so nice news coverage lately. Apple fans have stood by, and came out in droves to get the new phone. People were already angry about the ordering fiasco, so this sort of just tipped the scale.

Finally, on a less relevant but true note, iPhone users are used to people admiring our device will now be bombarded with questions and taunts about its flaw that is as popular in the media as the phone itself. It makes some of us defensive and more upset at Apple.

Me personally, I just feel they should return to the drawing board, issue a temporary fix (bumpers) followed by a recall. Get it working right and call it a day. There is a tomorrow. Don't worry, be happy.

My wife and I have been fortunate not to have any problems with the antenna, but the response from Apple has been cold, if understandable. With the bumpers as a rather reliable solution, and with bumper supply limited, it would be incredibly risky to admit the problem immediately as a structural flaw. That would likely force them to hand out the bumpers immediately rather than seek a different solution in the meantime, plus refunds for the people who already purchased one. I'm guessing Apple tries out other, cheaper fixes before giving in to that.

Having said that, I'd be pissed if I had the problem with my antenna.

>Why aren't we giving Apple a chance?

because this is a basic basic design flaw that should have never made it out of the first stages of testing, let alone the design phase itself, and the fact that it did speaks volumes to either vast incompetence or fraudulent intent. there's no need for a second chance here.

They would get a chance if they came out from the start and said "yes, we see there is a problem and we are working on it". Instead people are left wondering if the device that they just spent A LOT of money on will ever work as advertised.

Because too many of us got screwed through this whole process. Pre-order was a mess. ATT is a mess. Apple's efforts are a mess.

What it comes down to is that people's heads need to roll. From ATT management and engineers to Apple iPhone sales team, all of these people should be shopping for jobs at Burger King after the weeks of screw ups we have had to live through.

For the record of the 10K people who said they are having problems so-far here (going by the poll), many of them seem to be in a wait and see position, like myself. I have complained here a bit but not to the degree some people are just over and over. Not to mention the trolls looking for any problem.

If this is affecting you, call Apple (no one on this board can fix your phone), log your complaint and give them a chance. If you can't wait a week and can't make calls return it until something is done, some of you sound like children who can't have their cake NOW.

As for me I applied some tape for now as I don't like cases and I am waiting for what comes next. If you can't do that then return it and wait or get something else.

If only everybody reacted like you.
