Nice try implying that you're not also plenty obnoxious. :p

I don't find miles0110' obnoxious, though lately, the past year or so, they seem to be of a rather cynical tone, which I quite understand.

While I understand the need for LMFGTOFY, I also fallen for it in my beginnings here, some linked search results, which should more than cover the answer for the thread creator's question plus the actual search I used, seem to be the least offensive, but poignant way, to show, that sometimes, or more often than not, questions can be answered easier with just looking for the answers, instead of going through all the trouble in creating a thread.
Though the departure of MRoogle took quite some time to get accustomed to. Bastards.

That was not the implication at all. However, you agree that ****** is a different brand of obnoxious than my posts.

Sometimes. :p

Oh Miles can be helpful but also a touch condescending and indeed obnoxious but mostly I was just joking around.

Regarding MRoogle, it couldn't be helped. For no reason edesignuk could understand or get out of google they pulled it and ignored all questions as to why. Now THAT is obnoxious.

I guess it is the crux of old timers, or serial posters, like the one writing this here, to sometimes feel a bit grumpy, as we have seen so many questions asked over and over and over and over again, which is normal for a board like this, as it gets new members almost every minute.
And when one is in a foul mood, at least with me, the replies can be off-putting, especially with battery heat virus questions. Luckily I ignore the iOS sub-fora, I guess I would have gotten more warnings than I already have (for being insulting).

Anyway, LMFGTFY will not return, and there are still ways to be obnoxious, I try to be my best at sometimes.

People are stupid. *shrug* I'm comfortable saying that I've gone through a large enough sample set to be able to say that 96-98% of the people that post questions here are a) not thinking, b) not looking for the answer themselves, c) are incapable of doing (a) or (b) for whatever reason. I'm not shy letting them know that. If I cared what other people thought about my tone or posts they might be different.

I work in a public library, and I can tell you that people come in daily for help finding things online. They are intelligent professionals, or students in difficult courses of study, and they come and and tell us that they googled it but didn't find it. You'd think they could google something, but they clearly can't. I think those of us who do it daily forget that searching actually takes practice.

Anyway, then we do a search for them, and we often find what they're looking for in the first few hits. THAT'S when we do something that the ****** crowd here doesn't bother to do: we explain to them why we searched as we did. They go away with both the info they needed, and a better understanding of how to search.

I'm always surprised when this discussion pops up here. ****** is incredibly condescending. This is a board where people come for help. Help is only useful if the person helping is willing to adjust the help to the asker's needs. Help given in a condescending way doesn't leave a good taste in the mouth of the person who came here for help. There are ways to be funny and joke around (and joking around is important too) without being condescending.

I don't mean everyone here has to be as pedagogical as a librarian. It's fine to post a link without taking the time to explain how you found what you found. But why be snarky about it? "I found something you might find useful here" is a lot better than ******. "I searched for X and Y and found this thread here on MR that answers your question" is even better. ;)

Thank you for your rational and wise post.

I think this is a skill that people need to learn in general, not simply on online forums: we know things that other people don't know, and other people know things that we don't know. And when dealing with people, such as on a forum like this or if you work in a customer service industry, the reality is that you're going to encounter people over and over again who don't know the things that you know.

What that means is that if I ask a question, it may be the 100th time today that you've had to answer it and you may be tempted to say "geez, the answer's right there, can't anybody read!?" but you have to stop and understand that, to me, this is a real question deserving of a real (and polite) answer. I see it all the time in stores and (particularly) restaurants. Sometimes even teachers. That smirk, that eye roll, that snarky comment, that air of superiority.

Not sure why this is even still in question, especially after the answers given

I can assure you, the one posting the question doesn't find a ****** answer humorous at all

And those that do find it funny are likely the same folks that want you to pull their finger for laughs too

Dude, I agree with your first statement but with regard to your second, farts are always funny. :D

There are quite a few but these are typically reserved for websites that spammers often refer to. You may see some spam posts malformed with lots of ***** in their links, this is due to them being blocked.

You do know I can use URL encoding to work around this sort of banning, right? I'm sure the spammers can do the same.

http://******.com/?q=URL+Encoding

http://******.com/?q=URL+Encoding

http://******.com/?q=URL+Encoding

Or alternatively you can go to ****** and "shorten" the link using "bit.ly"
