My take is that while bumpers may soften the blow if the phone drops, that the glass is supposed to be scratch-resistant. The stainless steel can still be scratched easily, so the bumper will also protect against that.

Well this is great news. I hate cases on my phone.
Are the bumpers silicon making it kind of difficult sliding the phone in and out of the pocket?
I want the iPhone the most and was going to give my wifely phone and get the new one for myself. After some thinking about it I'm going to get her the new iPhone since we have 2 small children and a 3rd on the way. A video camera is invaluable right now.
Oh and the screen is easy to scratch. The 2nd day I had mine in my pocket I put two large scrathes on it while in my pocket from one key.

They're not silicone. They're molded plastic. Your pocket will be fine! :D

That's exactly what you should do then. Give her yours and upgrade yours the the iPhone 4! Most ladies don't really care about having the latest and greatest. :)

The new screens are much, much more scratch resistant. Either way, I still highly suggest www.wrapsol.com . They provide the best scratch resistance. :)

I need to find a case that would have some sort of plug for the dock area and preferably for the headphone jack as well.... I work in a very dusty environment and the inside of my iphone gets extremely dusty...

Any ideas?

Yes! There will be cases with that available. Always are. I suggest OtterBox first because they're waterproof. That would make sure absolutely no dust enters the phone. Second, I suggest SwitchEasy. They make great cases with bottom inserts, but their cases will not stop dust from getting between the phone and the case.

Neither company has announced release day cases.

I'm going with the black bumper. That along with phantom skinz will provide the complete protection i need for my iphone 4

That's a great combo. That's what I've been trying to tell people. "Skin" protectors and the bumper will be the best bet until the case companies roll out their cases.

Definitely NOT "easy" to scratch.
I'd call both my 3G and 3GS "scratch resistant". You've been just unlucky, everybody on the interwebz agree that they're scratch resistant.

About cases/bumpers, I have this issue: being an OCD cleaner of the iphone screen, the lip of my (switcheasy torrent) case (and bumpers I suppose) annoys me, I hate not being able to clean till the edge and surpass the edge of the front glass. I'd hate my fingers bumping against those bumpers while cleaning the screen. Then again, I'd hate a broken iphone even more, although in 2 years my iphones never fell off my hands or pockets.

Is the wrapsol more clear than invisishiel? That's what I'm use to but IMHO the phone loses it's beauty when you co er up that crystal clear beautiful screen with a screen protector.

In my opinion, yes... very much more so. It's slick. Invisible Shield is known to turn yellow over time. Wrapsol won't. You will love Wrapsol if you don't like covering up the beautiful screen. It's barely noticeable! Check out some reviews online. Make the decision for yourself. ;)

In the wrapol installation video after she's done putting everything together the phone is no longer shiny. You get a matte look - maybe it looks better in person?

From certain angles, it does have a matte look. From straight on, it's not noticeable. It's a personal preference. ;)

wrapsol + bumper sounds like a pretty good bet (white phone+black bumper is my choice) that is, if i can invest another $60

on wrapsol's website they say "ultra drop protection"
how is that even plausible?

The front and back surfaces will never touch the floor because of the way the bumper is designed. Besides, contact with the corners are more likely to result in cracking than falling face down.

That is what I was thinking as well...

So, you think the case covers will be more effective than the bumper?

I know it's hard to believe!!! Watch youtube videos of peopel dropping phones from 40 feet with this stuff on. Not a scratch! I've seen iPhone drug behind vehicles on dirt roads, thrown at walls, dropped onto concrete from great heights, and even people putting them in a bag of nails and rocks and shaking it up... still no damage.

I think the skins like Wrapsol, Zagg Invisible Shield, and Ghost Armor are a great combo with the Bumper. Alone, they are better than 90% of normal cases out there.

AGREE TOTALLY! not only do they protect the iphone extremely well, but it allows the beautiful iphone to be seen

Exactly why they're the best option available. :)

Personally, I am pairing Wrapsol with a normal case because I absolutely love my Case-Mate ID, which holds two credit card-sized cards. It doubles as my wallet.

It protects the sides and the front and back in a way. Since the bumper is raised up a bit past the screen and back not flush with them it provides a gap when laying it on a surface or when dropping it. Sconce I don't get scratches I think I will just be buying a bumper. If the screen and back are stronger now that's just even better

I used to be a BIG wrapsol fan. However I just tried PhantomSkinz and in my opinion their matte film is much better. Lately wrapsols cuts are not nice and straight. The edges are jagged. Plus PhantomSkinz is cheaper and gives you two sets vs. wrapols one.

Oh, I agree... but not all surfaces are created equal! :D

That's weird. I'd be willing to bet if you call Wrapsol, they'd replace it for you at no charge.

that makes me feel a little better because i already ordered my phantomskinz for my soon to be iphone 4

Do you guys think that you get the whole pack of 6 colored bumpers for the $29 price? The iPod socks come in a pack of 6 colors for the same price. I'm guessing that is what's gonna happen.

I highly doubt it. I'm willing to bet we have to pay $30 for one bumper. It's Apple.

:apple::rolleyes:
