The Dell site isn't as easy to navigate as it used to be, when I used to buy a new Dell Inspiron every couple years. I can't find a link where I can customize an XPS and choose 8GB RAM. The most I see is 4GB. If it's there, I can't find it. I was looking to do a spec-by-spec comparison with the 17" MBP.

lol i know, its full of advertising now which is really annoying too, its not so bad in the UK one but the US one is confusing  anyway it would be good for someone else to do a comparison to prove my point, but i almost feel like telling you to not bother and save your time on this DellFanBoy who's just here to waste our time.

yes you can order XPS M1330 laptops with 8gb of ram. go to the dell small/medium business section and customize the m1330 or m1550 laptops.

I'm obviously missing something here. When I use the filter on the left, it appears the XPS only comes with a miniscule 13.3" screen and a max of 4GB RAM.

Maybe someone can post a link to where 8GB and a larger-than-postage-stamp screen is an option on the XPS?

XPS M1530 = $1,968
Thats if you make it the same spec as the BASE Macbook Pro
But unfortunately the best graphics you can have is 256MB NVIDIA 8600M GT where as the Macbook Pro has the 9400 as well.

Macbook Pro 15" = $1,999

You dont get a sexy aluminium design with the XPS which i think is worth $30
DellFanBoys: Wrong once again :p

Epic fail from Mac fanboys. Overpaying for underpowered hardware since 1984.

Mac config: 2675$ + tax

Dell config: 1284$ + tax (would be nothing compared to Apple tax :))

Both systems are matched with 3 year warranty (Dell still has advantage with on-site service), 2.4ghz CPU, 4GB RAM, 320GB @ 5400RPM HD, Remote, VGA and a non-propriety digital port, N wireless, BT.

How exactly are they matched? The RAM isnt even the same type.

And how bout the things like the magsafe, what price tag do you put on such a great feature.

Your comparison is wrong lol :D

The Dell only has DDR2 RAM and the Macbook Pro has DDR3
The Dell has a far smaller battery
The Dell has older Bluetooth technology
The Dell is made from plastic and not aluminium
The Dell doesnt have OS X ($129 extra)
The Dell has a virus called McAfee preinstalled
The Dell has a virus called Vista preinstalled
The Dell doesnt have a multi touch glass trackpad
The Dell doesnt have a chiclet keyboard
The Dell has the worlds worst internal speakers
The Dell doesn't have magsafe power connection

I believe if you fix your post to make it realistic instead of conveniently "forgetting" things such as the ram and battery and OS X you'll see the Macbook Pro is spec for spec cheaper.

Epic fail for the Dell Fan Boys, YET AGAIN. (except this time we've learnt they cant even count)

Well, fingerprint reader, 8-in-1 card reader, SVideo port, additional USB port, media keys are also features of M1530, yet not available for Mac.

man o man what will i ever do without that s video, and that card reader ?

I also HATE the media keys on my laptop, they are just annoying.

Well, fingerprint reader

Who cares. It's useless as far as I know. I don't see how more secure it is then a simple password.

8-in-1 card reader SVideo port

While I can get the same damn X-in-one card reader from almost every shop.

additional USB port

USB dongle are available if I need more ports.

media keys are also features of M1530

What do you need more then Previous, Play/stop, next and sound level? Mac already got it.

Yeah, if you see my post you'll see i put "The Dell has a virus called Vista preinstalled" :D

Its like marrying someone with an STD?! Just Why?!?!
:p
LMAO!! u guys are crazy, :D granted i'll say i like my macbook and my M1330 both very much. i'm staying outta these threads...

OMG what will I ever do without magsafe that keeps popping off, or burns down your entire house.

ok, I really didn't want to start a little war here lol. I'll throw in my 2 cents though. I bought a hooked up dell 1720 for $1,500 had it 8 months and decided that 17" was to big for me, so I went on the hunt for something new, and since I loved my iphone so much, I wanted to give apple a try. I though I'll get an old powerbook, well little did I know, the darn things were still selling for $500-$600. I sold my 8 month old Dell 1720 with 2.2Ghz CPU and 8600m GT GPU 4GB of RAM 360 HDx2. for $700.00 on ebay, and trust me when I tell you I could not have gotten much more.

my point being is my $1500 dell was worth less then 50% of what I paid! While 3-4 year old powerbooks sold for just about the same price as my up to date dell!

Don't get me wrong, I'll buy a good XPS any day, but I think I'll stick with apple for a LONG LONG time.

Yea, that problem was fixed quite a while ago actually, but hey, if you wanna whip out an old "theres only one mouse button" lie too then be my guest.....

You're kidding, right?! Your post is completely ludicrous! You completely lose on the OS discussion, and all you can come up with is an isolated and rare hardware failure???? How lame! How many MagSafes have experienced such problems, compared to how many, like mine, are in flawless condition? I won't stoop to such lows as to post Dells that have burned, blown up, etc.
