Well, if that's true, then they're in good company. The Apple fanboys usually do exactly the same for Apple everywhere else on the Internet.

And when you guys compare prices, you should always add the Apple Care package to the bill, because you will hardly find a Dell with less than three years of warranty. And the Dells always come with something that you just cannot get from Apple: A service technician coming to your place when you need one. And that within 24 hours.

I've done enough business with both Apple and Dell, and although I prefer OS X as my working horse and like the nicely designed Macs, I have to say that Dell offers outstanding business support that kicks Apple's butt. I cannot say anything negative about Dell, but Apple already screwed me enough (do I need to say more than being charged for iPod Touch software updates?).

mm, yeh, but given the quality dell puts into their laptops it's a wonder they're still in business. maybe they have a better 'business' approach than apple. but in terms of shear quality, apple wins, hands down. my old school ibook G3 @ 500Mhz is still running strong and yet i fear my 2 year old core duo dell work laptop may be on it's death bed. something about blue-screening whenever it wakes from sleep ... let's see... original 5GB ipod still works. oh, and my still-functioning mac classic i just donated...

Pretty Much, its like walking into a Jack Daniels distillery and saying Swedish fermented moose urine tastes nicer and then trying to argue how its cheaper too.

 I dont see the connection, everyone KNOWS the moose urine tastes nicer.

but I like moose urine;)

My first post, was simply asking why the dell with a lesser cpu could go up to 8GB of RAM? My question is valid! My UBMBP could only handle 6 and for some reason a DELL with lesser specs could run 8? WHY? So I come here to ask the people that know. I don't see how I was "asking for a flame war" but what ever. I'm off to the local pub to get me a big mug of moose urine.

"Does the Unibody Macbook pro not have a better...... EVERYTHING? lol"

What translator are you using?

This is my take.

I think the "experience" of owning a Mac, its unique attention to details (i.e. unibody aluminum, MagSafe, sensors for dimming screens, simplicity and minimalism, OS X), its longer-than-industry average lifespan, are elements that makes Macs worth it.

Again, who really compares hardware performances nowadays? Even the cheapest notebooks (not netbooks) has a dual core nowadays, which is more than enough for the average consumers out there.

Now that the GHz game is over, and the hardware performance game is over, it all boils down to, IMO, which can deliver the best computing experience?

I think most of us know what the answer is.

What does this have to do with moose urine?

Nothing. I am not posting this regarding to your topic. I am posting this in regards to the general discussion that was created from your original topic.

price question

can anyone refute the dell and mbp having similar hardware or exactly the same hardware come in such disproportionate prices? if the 1530 is that much cheaper there had very well be a much better 'everything' to apples laptops -- something i have been debating for a long time now.

Dell use cheaper parts and quality control anyway, for example you'll see a lot of their internal parts arn't branded however interestingly the new 17" Unibody Macbook Pro's Core 2 Duo processor isnt branded either, naughty Apple have started using brown boxed parts and thought we wouldn't notice!

(see, no die markings)

anyway this has nothing to do with moose urine...

i went to dell and apple and could not find a comparable dell to apple. dell have many in 13 inch or so but few in 15 inch. even in 15 inch, the cpu is far from apple's high end offereings.

however, apple should address this firmware issue and allow all mpb to support 8gb ram: that is silly. video card too is different in dell unless you go for high end models: it uses shared memory for the video card and the main ram.

other differences exist but i did not probe too deeply.

If people just want a basic notebook with a GPU a CPU some RAM and a Monitor then Dell is the company to go to. They build reliable notebooks for a low entry price.

Apple on the other hand are for people that want a lot more then just a basic notebook they want things like automatically lighting up keyboards and auto-dimming displays. Magsafe connectors and drive head parkers. They want a notebook that comes in a rigid aircraft grade Aluminium enclosure with a light weight and a small overall volume that is still Eco Friendly.

People who compare Dells to Apples miss the point entirely. The 'Computer' is more then just the sum of its standard components.
It is the Shell Aluminium + Glass vs Plastic
The Support Genius Bar vs Nothing
The Ease of Use OS X vs Windows
The Safety MagSafe + Suddon Motion Sensor + Time Machine vs Volume Shadow Copy
The Compromises Unadulterated Thinness and Weight above all else vs if it fits the case mould it goes in
The Overall Finish & Attention to Detail Unibody, Specifically engineered lasers for Grill holes, Magnetic Latching, Glass Multitouch Trackpad, up-to 8 hour batters, Hidden Sleep & Camera LEDs, Hidden Microphone & Light Sensors vs. whatever Dell could do with the infrastructure already built in their factory

There will always be people that just want the basic Notebook and for them you have Dell but there is another bunch of people who use there machine day in and day out and want something they can not only use productively but admire and deliberate over every fine detail. For those people we have Apple.

Would I buy a Dell? No. I care to much about the Machines I use to just buy an uncreative slab of utility.

what i love alot about apple laptops is that i can rely on the battery. Ive had 2 windows laptops, a compaq and dell. After one use of battery and charging it, I could never unplug it. The battery was totally dead. My black macbook runs on the battery alot and not failing.

No, not everything apple is the best. I honestly would not have an one if it were not for the OS. If it was allowed to be put on a wayyyyy cheaper machine with better specs i would. But at least you get a sweet, sleek looking machine to go with the equally as sleek OS.

Please… just because you can put a V8 in the Corvette doesn't mean it's better than the Flat-6 in a Porsche!

Who different ballgame here.

That brings back memories of all the Corvettes who failed miserably, trying to catch my Porsche Turbo.... and one I humiliated with a Mercedes 500SEL! :D
