Interesting observation.

As we can see from the pic, the longer screen actually displays more valuable information within in app, while the wide screen has little benefit.

Considering this is the layout of most iOS apps, the user, in theory, should see more of the content they want with the longer screen.

This is actually very interesting. I think the 3:2 form factor looks a lot nice but indeed the 16:9 displays more information.

I wonder if the same holds true while browsing the web though.

Because we've seen enough of your other posts in these forums and understand you weren't being sarcastic in the slightest.
I see, it's only ok to share experiences if one gushes over Apple... :) Got it.

No personal experiences allowed, only if one praises Apple. Got it.

Thank you so very much for the clarification, I was very wrong to think this was an open forum where people were welcome to speak freely about their experiences, perspectives and the like.

Without your personal guidance I would be lost..thanks again.

Okay so if they decided on a 16:9 screen that displays more info, why can they make it wider and taller?

Wow, somebody can dish it out but not take it. Why so defensive?

Maybe you should read my post again. I never said you couldn't speak your mind, please feel free, criticize them all you like if you want. Just don't try to feign sarcasm when you've offered up plenty of criticism of Apple's products/practices and then claim someone else doesn't have a sense of humor.

I _did_ read your post, I've included it above, your accusation was based on an interpretation of earlier posts. It was not based on fact as you indicated.

I don't claim to know what you're thinking, you have no right to tell me what I'm thinking.

Just because I can be outspoken on certain aspects of Apple operations or products, doesn't mean I don't have a sense of humor, or that I dislike Apple.

I participate here as a passionate long time enthusiast of Apple and it's products. I will speak my mind, as others do.

That's the benefit of a good forum like MacRumors. By sharing with each other we learn. That's the beauty of this forum.

if iPhones increased in width and height like most of those new phones I've been seeing around (Galaxy??) then I certainly would not buy it. I don't need a phone that's too large to fit in my pocket. I think this height increase is extremely practical and increases content space without adding ridiculous width to the phone.

Of course this is my personal opinion. I think those huge phones look ridiculous and I shake my head every time I see people using them.

If I want a larger screen for browsing, then I'll use my iPad.

yeah, because adding half and inch to the width of the iphone is suddenly going to make it not fit in your pocket.

Even adding half an inch in width to the phone would make it awkward FOR ME. I'm not saying everyone will feel that way. The current iPhone width fits perfectly in my hand for single-handed use, and I feel like adding that half an inch would require me to use both hands in order to comfortably hold it.

I PERSONALLY believe that phones don't need to get much bigger width-wise. It's a trend I can't hop on board with.

I've handled a Galaxy S3, and it definitely fit in my pocket. I can understand people complaining about something like the Galaxy Note being too large, but the S3 is certainly manageable in my eyes.

My iPad is always my go to device for browsing, but then again, an iPad certainly isn't pocketable is it?

They aren't making it wider because they'll lose 'retina'. (yes, we all know it's a marketing term, but Apple painted themselves in a corner with it and now we'll have to live with the results)

Honestly, I am so sick and tired of people believing that what apple does is infallible and there is some sick smart way to decide what size is right for majority of the consumer. EVEn if what they think is right for majority of the people, they are missing out on millions of customer to others because they sit on one size.... Apple is sitting on 2007 mentality. This is 2012.. move on.. gee

This is fairly nonsensical, as the Retina display is agnostic when it comes to screen length and width.

A 16:9 4" screen is equally capable of being a "Retina Display" as a 3:2 3.5" screen.

here's my guess: remember when apple made the 'fat' ipod nano? that wasn't so popular; however, people were happy when they brought back the longer version. Perhaps apple is just doing what they think most people prefer? (and btw, the opinion on macrumors don't reflect what most people want, not even close.)

Nano in general is not popular.

the key word being "was". And that was ~6 years ago.

Perhaps you are missing the point ; I was merely pointing out the fact that people don't necessarily always prefer wider screens on a mobile device.

and people don't necessarily always prefer a small screen on a mobile device.

I never said people do; I said there are people who prefer a longer as opposed to a wider screen.
It looks like you have some trouble with your reading comprehension? or you re just a trolling fandroid.
