I might like to point out that SUV have some huge pluses over cars and if used correctly are great cars to own.
My parents for the first time in about 20 years do not own an SUV. They sold it for gas mileage reason and the last kid has gone off to college. I am out of college and my brother is out at Christmas so it not used for trips any more.
But more to point. They owned and SUV's for all those years because they had 3 kids and we did go on longer trips. I am sorry but a car just does not cut it for just 4 people on long trips. It was the "family vehicle" so when we went any where as a family we always took the SUV. They also been used for towing and taking large loads from the hardware store moving and so on.
Those things above a car just does not handle as well if at all. Heck at thanksgiving as a family we are going to go do some things and because of the lack of an SUV we will be taking 2 cars. Let me tell you 20 mpg in the SUV is better than the 30 mpg of 2 cars. That and the loss of the SUV is making us have to rethink some family tradition. One being we have to take a car and the '95 Ram to go get our Christmas tree. I just put it this way the truck on a good day gets 15 mpg.... Do not need to do the math on that one. But then again we will be using that truck as a truck as it has been for the past 4 years or so.
