While consolidation is nice and efficient, it doesn't make sense for email addresses to be stored with phone numbers. Every time I go to send a new text it brings up the phone number and email, unnecessary and confusing.
You want your contact information all to be in one place...that seems to make quite a bit of sense, and how it's been done even with old paper organizers even before computers. Why have a separate thing just for phone numbers, and another one just for emails, and another one just for physical addresses, etc.

As for phone numbers and emails showing up as options in Messages app, I believe there was another recent thread on that topic that addressed that fairly well.

Yeah I know. And that other thread did explain it, although I still wonder how many people on iPhones actually use iMessage to communicate with people on iPods/iPads. I feel like there should be an option to prevent email addresses from showing up for those who don't. Just my opinion, although I'm sure there are plenty who share it.

All depends on how one looks at it. It makes no sense on a mobile OS for every app to have its own contact data. It makes more sense to store contact info with contact info for all apps to access.

I agree with that but Apple really isn't known for providing a plethora of options.

So that annoys you as well how the email and phone number pop up?

You don't need to have your annoyance validated by anyone else. :) If it bugs you, that's your truth. But it's worth noting that many more users likely find the feature helpful and convenient.

One helpful use of this feature is when you're texting with a wifi iPad to someone using the same. That requires using an email address vs a telephone number. Contacts pops up both for selection. :)
