just curious why Apple would have space grey drop it in favor of matte black and jet black then come back out with space grey. I like both colors I was just curious as to why they would do that.

I honestly wish they kept the matte black. My idea was aluminum matte black like before around the band of the phone, and a matte glass finish vs. the fingerprint magnet shiny one.

The conspiracy theorist in me says: The design is more likely to scuff, break, etc. which would entice people to upgrade in the future in addition to new features (glass back will shatter, stainless steel scratches easily). I kept my 6+ in pristine condition for the 3 years I have had it minus the scratches it got in its case from trapped dust. I kept it for this long because it looks almost brand new.

I would hope there would be a matte option in the future, but for now you could slap a dbrands skin on it that I believe wraps around the band and back of the phone for that matte look.

edit: spelling

The conspiracy theorist in me says that black (both matte and jet) were introduced to goose sales of the 7/7+ because Apple was concerned they wouldn't sell enough units. This would be due to the fact that the 7/7+ was pretty much a 6ss/6ss+ on the outside.

Now that there's the buzz for the X and the 8/8+ Apple can pull the color again because they know people will buy even if there isn't the color they really want.

The conspiracy theorist in me says this. I know nothing for fact.

The correct answer is so that they can introduce both matte and jet black on the Xs next year to boost sales like they did on the 7. But the correct question is how can they call so many different colors space gray? My X doesn't look anything like my MBP or my iPhone 6. If Apple is going to make up stupid names for their colors, why not actually change the name when the color is actually different? "Meteorite gray" vs. "Space gray".

Yeah I actually like the grey color on the x a lot better then the 6s

I personally feel that Apple is in some sense playing it safe and also making sure that the color stays an an Apple level brand. When people question Apples choice in design, they lack to realize that they (apple) is very calculated. Think about the original design and how iconic it is in the cell phone space. When you see a silhouette with a home button cut out, you know they mean iPhone. When you see the new iPhone X silhouette with a notch, you know they mean iPhone X. If it was all screen and no notch or home button, a phone icon is just a phone icon.

I like space grey and apparently millions others do as well.
I do to was just wondering. Now the old space grey I really didn’t like. The matte black was a lot better imo. Now I do like the new one better then both cause it’s more of a charcoal grey.

Well it isn't matte black. I don't know how you get glass to appear matte. The galaxy s8 back looks pretty much like the space grey back of the iPhone X

How can you do matte black on a glass back? :D

I used to own one of these. It’s frosted glass rather than matte black but it’s close in look.
