Why did Apple even send out those e-mails for June 23rd delivery?

They were sent for the same reason Apple sends notifications.

My iPhone 4 is at the local FedEx facility being loaded on a truck for delivery.

Today is the big day! ... :)

The whole point is that I received the e-mail saying I should get it today but, according to FedEx, it's still in transition from Newark, NJ to my local facility.
It's already past 8AM so I kind of give up on hope.

I'm home already today so if they come, awesome. If not, well, this is what i expected.

Thats a little weird that our phones are in different states right now but yet you have the correct delivery date and I don't. Enjoy the new toy! I'm heading to the MOA tomorrow to see if I can let my not so tech-savy friend buy my reserved phone at the store. I couldn't cancel it so maybe I can help my friend out???

My is the same thing although it seems to be going back and forth to Newark. Arrive, Depart, Arrive Depart... It must have forgotten where is was going and went back to get directions.

Mine says it just arrived in Indy. And I live in NC. Apple said my phone arrives the 23rd. Fedex concurs. I guess I just need to assume the scanning is going slower than the actual trip.

As for the OP, I'm not a heartless ****** like some people here. I get that for some people getting the new phone is a huge deal, but also that taking even one day off to get it is a huge chunk of your vac time for the year. Using 2 is just insane. Apples email definitely screwed over a lot of people. To be cavalier about that just shows one's inability to imagine what other peoples lives are like.
 
If you want to to talk about odd emails, AT&T sent one entitled LET'S TALK ABOUT YOUR NEW IPHONE.

and the first line was: We hope you're enjoying your new iPhone 3GS. :confused:

If you got the email, then you will probably get the phone today. You will also probably never see that reflected in your tracking info and the FedEx reps won't be able to see it either. Case in point: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/946885/
 
I can't wait to check later to see the OP excited that his iPhone arrived.

Last thing my tracking said was left Dest sort facility in Memphis. Not arrived locally, not out for delivery.
Next thing I know, FedEx guy is at the door before 10:30 am.
