May I inquire as to why you have FLACs on the MBA?

First of all the FLAC vs 256 kbps difference isn't noticeable to most people, except in maybe classical music. Unless you're using high-grade audio equipment you won't hear a difference. I have used FLAC and ALAC files on and off, and really it isn't worth it for 99% of people.

If you plan on using the integrated speakers / sound card it's a 100% waste. Even with decent Bose headphones (INB4 Bose vs. Beats flame war) plugged in I rarely hear a difference in FLACs.

Not being rude here - I'm just trying to save you some space :)

I encode my music using the LAME encoder. It produces VBR mp3 files that I cannot distinguish from AAC, FLAC, OGG, etc.

Strange.

In just 2 days, I filled up my entire SSD. Now it's telling me that my Startup disk is almost full.

Why would Apple even provide us with such small storage? I watch 1080p movies, just like everyone, listen to FLAC, just like everyone and view pictures in RAW, just like photographers do.

This just wouldn't work. And their 512 GB upgrade is expensive too. I'd rather get a Retina-Display MBP.

Why didn't Apple provide the MBA with at least 1TB of SSD? With all the lightning fast stuff and the huge storage?

512GB is too expensive yet you want at least 1TB of ssd? Lmfao really? What in heaven did I just read.

I wish we have macrumors memes it would be epic.

I'm on an MBA 128 GB model, and still have 60 gigs left. That's after having all my apps, entire iTunes, Windows 8 in parallels and much more installed. Plenty of space for the everyday user.

If you need a TB of storage and you're not a professional of some sort you're doing something wrong. Clear out your music library - I know some people with 200 GB libraries - there's no way they actually like / listen to all of it.

Clean up your movies. Put them on an external drive - you don't need SSD speeds for that. Same goes for music...

Sorry, but that makes absolutely no sense.

You seem to overestimate the typical use of a laptop and underestimate the typical price of SSD.

Apple can't be blamed if your storage needs were more than what you bought. 256 and 512GB options were available and that's probably what any Apple store employee would have suggested you if you told him you wanted to keep 1080p movies, FLAC and RAW files on your main drive.

Since those however don't require high read speed, an external hard drive would be fine. An USB 3 one would do. If you don't want an external drive, return the MBA and get a cMBP. You can even put a second hard drive in its optibay for even more storage. You could get 2TB total for pretty cheap.

I see no point to having all those movies on my 128GB SSD. I mean, what's the point? That's what external drives are for. If I want to watch a movie, I'll either watch one off of my hard drive, flash drive, or just leave 5 or 10 on my hard drive for future viewing. Music I can understand, but .m4u and .mp3 files are just fine... and that's what iPods are for. FLAC is nice and all, but it's insane to use up that much room (25-35MB) for a single song. Pictures, same thing.. no point to keeping them on the laptop, either. Again... that's what hard drives are for..

My 2008 imac has a 3Tb hdd in it and its almost full but my 128g MBA is only 50% full with the full Adobe creative suite my favorite music and other videos and pics. Its all about just having what you need on there at the one time and keeping the rest on your main computers hdd or an external. I LOVE my 2011 MBA btw :)

Internal SSD for OSX, Applications and work files. External USB 3.0 Hard Drive for Photos, Music and Videos.

Works like a charm.

Why does he even have 1080p in a Air. And again, I understand FLAC is of higher quality (yes there are differences) but why on the Air, it doesn't even have the hardware to fully drive it...nothing but a waste.

If you had the proper files for the proper setup then you would've at least had a legitimate complaint.
