i just can't figured out this that you said: "the previous owner of your phone clearly got your ECID on file while 4.0 was still being signed, i.e., before July 15. You're now all set for future versions, and can indeed upgrade to 4.0, 4.0.1, or 4.0.2.", because i bought it on a store, it was sealed, i activate myself the iphone via iTunes, so it wouldn't be loggic that i could only have SHSH for 4.0.2 (the only firmware i think that apple is signing in the moment??)

Your phone must be a refurbished model. I hope you didn't pay full retail for it. But, on the other hand, you got a phone with its 4.0 SHSH on file...so I wouldn't complain.

what does refurbish means? bought in 2nd hand?? that it have already been used by someone else??

Did you check the serial number per post 20? It is odd that a refurb would come with 3.1.3 on it yet had been in use during the 4.0 signing window.

Settings - General - info:

my serial number doesn't contain any "k"... in fact it is: 87019G3L3NP

as i said before, it came sealed, needing activation by itunes... so i suposed it has really to be brand new... right??

and if it's true, that's why i think it is odd that saurik have my SHSH for 4.0 and 4.0.1, because i thought those versions aren't signied anymore...

but i can be mistaken.,..

The whole thing is odd, but since he has his 4.0 SHSH on-file, the only possible explanation is that either his phone or one containing his phone's chipset was previously owned before July 15. That means his phone either:

1) A returned phone repackaged and sold as new, or

2) A refurbished phone.

Any iPhone that is restored will need activation, and anyone with a shrink-wrapper can reseal a phone. Neither of those facts is evidence that your phone was not previously owned.

ok... i will try to upgrade to 4.0.1 or 4.0 and see if i can do that without any problem...

i will report as soon as i get it done..

thanks for all the help!!

1) Was previously bought, its ECID was put on file, and it was then returned, restocked, and resold as new

2) His phone is a refurbished phone that was improperly sold as new.

The turn around time to refurb one let alone use a broken phone for parts on a new one would just make it hard to imagine. Just a plain return, not for defects, would be most likely. The might have gotten a 3gs only to return it within a weeks time to get an iphone 4. The only other possible explanation is someone got luck for him putting ECID's in tinyumbrella, please let that guy pick my lottery numbers haha.

Oh, I don't know...remember that the phone could have been returned as early as June 21 and still have the 4.0 SHSH. Actually, it could have been returned earlier but still have been in the 3.1.3 queue when the cutoff arived. I imagine that would be adequate turn-around time for a refurb.

I agree that this is most likely, especially as the phone seems to have been sold as new an in the original packaging...something that should not happen with a refurb.

Indeed, I thought of that, but the odds against such a felicitous mistyping are so high that I dismissed the possibility.

I jailbroke my hubby's phone and chose "make my life easier" with cydia but it did not save his shsh!
I accidently updated now I am SOL! That sucks! It said when I initially jb and then opened cydia it said
shsh: iOS 4.1
I did edit my host file and then did the restore using the ispw thru itunes with the alt/restore but got the message this phone was not eligible.

So now I have to wait for the jailbreak for 4.1!

mine however said-- shsh: iOS 4.0.1, 4.0.2, 4.1

You probably should have started a new thread....

If you did the Jailbreak after Apple stopped signing iOS 4.0.1 SHSH blobs, it doesn't matter what iOS his iPhone had installed. It doesn't matter what was on his iPhone. It matters what Apple is currently signing.

For example, if I bought an iPhone 4 tomorrow at an Apple store and it came with iOS 4.0.1, I could Jailbreak it. But, Cydia would not be able to get an SHSH blob for that iOS version. It could and would get one for the current iOS 4.1. This would be true even if I never installed iOS 4.1 on that iPhone.

Understand?
