Why did you buy Xbox360?

Bought a 360 because it was the first console to launch here.

Bought a Wii when the 360's DVD drive failed and I needed something to play.

Bought a PS3 when the 360's motherboard & power supply failed and I needed something to play.

Microsoft's engineering & QA are doing wonders for other consoles' sales.

I have to say, I prefer the PS3's quietness, styling, HDMI & optical audio as standard. I still prefer the 360 controller and UI though.

As a Apple fan, I hate Microsoft with passion and would never buy any of their products.

Fair enough, though IMHO that's really quite pathetic...

I am quite surprised to see so many people here with a 360.

Clearly, not as many people on here are as petty as you.

What made you buy the 360?

I wanted one to play games. That's what 'GAMES CONSOLES' are for. The last time I checked Apple didn't make one

The price is the same when you add wireless to the 360Pro. More when you factor in Live costs. But the PS3 is still dogging, and aside from little big planet, all its top sellers in November-December are available on the 360.

Resistance 2 did quite well on the NPD's in November. 7th place I think.

Bought a 360 for nexgen gaming because it was ther only console on the market. Got some good mileage out of it until the Wii and PS3 came out. I recently sold it to a co-worker, but not because it is a bad console [it isn't at all], but because the exclusives I wanted were mainly on the PS3 and there simply weren't enough 360 exclusives to make me want to keep all three consoles.

A good product is a good product, no matter who makes it. I don't understand the blind allegiance to any brand, even Apple.

I bought the 360 for the same reason I got my mac. I buy the best there is on the market. I don't understand how people can be loyal to companies? But whatever, your loss not mine.

I got a Wii at launch, but unfortunately — despite a handful of really terrific games — Nintendo's "broader audience" strategy has left me yearning for more "hardcore" games.

I liked the prospect of playing PC games (many of which are 360 ports/dual releases) on my Mac, but a plethora of graphic card issues and Windows Vista issues have left me frustrated and unable to play much of anything.

So to put it simply, I got a 360 because of the games. There are very few PS3/PSN exclusives that I've any interest in, including upcoming games, while there are 360 exclusive games that I want. Price played some factor (I don't need the @#$% expensive wireless adapter) but was secondary. And easy connectivity with my Mac for media streaming plus Netflix integration also supported my decision (admittedly I have no idea how well the PS3 functions as a media center). I have zero interest in Blu-ray. I also love the 360's controller, while the Dualshock 3... er I mean Sixaxis  feels dated and, like it's predecessors, uncomfortable in my hands.

I'll also say that I bought a 360 despite my genuine dislike of Microsoft products (their software at least — I've had some mice of theirs that were really quite nice) and all the RRoD units. I was reluctant at first, but feel very comfortable with my choice. Before any of the three consoles came out I might have been leaning towards the PS3, but the tides have shifted.

I have to say, I prefer the PS3's quietness, styling, HDMI & optical audio as standard.
The 360 isn't any louder than my PS2 (original "fat" launch unit) or Wii. Which is to say, not totally silent but pretty quiet. If you get the Elite it comes with HDMI and optical audio as standard (even if it wasn't available at first).

Aren't the new 360's quieter than the early models? I never liked the noise of the early (what we currently have) 360, couldn't play that thing at night after work since it meant turning the volume up and waking up the house.

Uhh.... my 3 week old 360 is LOUD. It was one of the holiday bundles (Kung Fu Panda+Lego Indy).

Side note: I just got Braid for free from the VGAs! Thanks :D.

I got given a Xenon-based Xbox Premium (20GB drive) two weeks ago, and have since added the Wireless Adapter, Live Gold and a stack of controllers.

I'm using the 360 for exclusives, the PS3 is getting all the multiplatforms as I far prefer it. The 360 is noisy, I hate the Dashboard (yes, including the NXE) and the power brick is ridiculous. However, I still don't think I'd actually go and spend my hard earned cash on one. If Microsoft fixed the noise issue, then I'd be more willing.

Oh, and I've had a red quadrant twice in a week, which luckily goes away on a restart. Vaguely worried that it'll RRoD on me.

I love Apple products, and I've never been a fan of Microsoft, but what they have done with the 360 is just awesome. I love the thing.

My main reasons for sticking with the 360 is the continued on-slot of awesome games and the superior online service. Plus, I only know 5 people with PS3's and I know 15 with 360's. The 360 users are on XBL all the time, the PS3 users often don't play games at all. Two of my friends with PS3's just recently got 360's and they say (so far) Live is better than PSN. They also say that nobody ever voice-chats in games because the PS3 doesn't come with a headset by default(?) They also say 'Home' is a joke... I wouldn't know first hand, but I'm happy with my 360.

Just because there are more people using Xbox doesn't mean its a better machine. If M$ manages to get a monopoly like Windows then we are truly doomed. For that reason alone I have a PS3 and will never buy anything from Microsoft.

Most people don't have Cat5 in their living room. I wasn't about to run it in my wall for sure. And yes, there are less expensive options to add wireless, but the MS official wireless adapter is $100, and most people will buy it for Live.

360Pro(60) is $300US, 360Elite(120) is $400US, and both need the $100 wireless adapter. PS3-80 is $400US, PS3-160 is $500US.

360Arcade is $200US, but no HDD and I'm pretty sure you still need a HDD if you want to use Live Gold.

The price is the same when you add wireless to the 360Pro. More when you factor in Live costs. But the PS3 is still dogging, and aside from little big planet, all its top sellers in November-December are available on the 360.

I always hate those arguments saying well if you add in blank feature they are the same. As for Xbox Live you get a better system that has fewer problems. You get what you pay for in that factor.

Most people do not need a wireless adapter nor do they get one for the 360. A lot of people put put the modems and router near the TV so they just plug 360 into that any how that or they can run the cord to the router like I did.

Here is my 360 set up. I had a spare 50 or 100 ft cat Cord from college. I plugged it in the back of my box and ran it along the wall then drilled a hold in the wall and put it though it. Ran it to the wireless modem in that room. Minor amount of work but very well worth it. I would like to point out that I already had the cord for my AT&T Uverse running along that same path. I know my brother on his did something a lot like me for the clearer look.

And I would like to point out that the longer eithernet cords are a cheaper solution than buying a wireless adapter.

Like I said I always hate those arguments.

I think you lost any credibility for that argument. Your first post stated that you are a Apple Fanboy and just hate Microsoft.

Because I owned the original Xbox and thought it was great, so I got the 360 as well. I love it, especially online.

Sure, ethernet cables are cheap. However, lots of people live in rented accommodation where you can't go bashing holes to run cables, and yet others have a hatred of the cables behind the AV rack, and anything to reduce the number of them is a good thing.

Or, the 360 is nowhere near the router. My router is in the living room, stashed under the AV rack. However, the 360 is in the bedroom with no way of running a cable there beyond extensive building work. Wireless it was, and MS need to drop the damn price. £20? I'd be happy enough to pay that, but the £50 asking price was silly. Had to do it though, as will a lot of other people.

The games and that's the only reason and well my friends have it, but now I sorta regret it.... my xbox just red ringed and apparently 1 red ring is not covered under the 3 year warrenty....

hmm I live in a rent apparment and I just put a 1/2 in hold in the wall with the drill. It is the corner and I can easily patch it when I leave. It is not that hard to do. And cables behind the AV rack is rather unadvoidible since you will have multiple devices hook up there. The trick is knowing how to make them look neat. For me the router is in my office which is fair distance way from my TV. I ran the cable along the wall under the carpet and then though the wall to the router. Cheap solution and it looks very neat. Also if you know what you are doing you can get a cheap wireless router and use it as a gateway. Just connect to the cheap wireless router to have it connect wireless with the main router.

Main point is it goes back to the original argument of I hate people throwing in the extra crap to make them equal when many people do not want or need that extra stuff.

Word of mouth is never a good thing unless you experienced it first hand. I have at least 50 people on my friends list and lets just say the majority of them are online all the time...my 360 list is basically dead...does that mean anything?

I guess I'll never get the "LIVE is better" thing since I only want to play the game online and not interested in the chatting and what have you but for a person like me PSN is good enough. The games I want to chat in like RBV2, SOCOM communities all play with headsets.

I bought it a long time ago, when Gears 1 came out, because I had to spend my internship money on something.

Lately I have been using it every day for HD netflix streaming. It's almost worth the price for that alone! It's a fantastic service.

I'm not trying to troll here - only asking a question: Does the PS3 have netflix support?

30 seconds on Google will tell you "no".

30 seconds of thinking might help you realize that some people have jobs which block all video game sites on work computers. I can't even view the wikipedia on PS3, never mind articles that google finds - I probably can't even view the google search results page for PS3. I'm lucky I can use MR.

You're so wise though. Maybe stop and think that everyone on earth besides you might not be an idiot.

Because I can play good games on it.

I've actually owned three different ones. Had a first one two years back and was afraid it would die on me (no warranties on them in Thailand) so sold it. Bought a Wii and had fun for a few months. Then traded Wii for friend's 360 for a bit and played through about 10 games. Hated giving it back. Finally sold my Wii and repurchased a 360 and about 10 games (loving Fable 2).

If I can work around the block I'm going to try and do netflix with it from Singapore, which would be a great bonus. Also love it because unlike my Apple TV I can stream the shows I download without converting...
