Seems like you're already convinced yourself to buy an iPhone with your above quote ;)

As for reasons why I personally go with the iPhone?
- quality design materials
- top notch battery life
- apple customer service
- guaranteed updates on time
- os smoothness
- biggest user base (so more developers, accessories, & easier to sell)
- ability to use it one handed

I laughed so hard at the battery life comment.you must not be using urs,at all.iphone 4s and 5 have currently HIDEOUS battery life.and apples idea of fixing that is having wifi disconnect and reconnect every10 mins while on standby.

You are spot on on all other factors, though and i might add security to the list as well.especially if compared to android.but if battery life is even remotely important to the op, run away from iphones (i4 had great batt, tho)..if you can live with carrying charger in ur pocket 24/7 then by all means,go for it.

OP, I think what you are really asking us to do, is to tell you why we like our iPhones.

I've never used anything other than an iPhone, so I don't know how to compare smartphones. I just know it is very easy to use, and I can always depend on it being fully functional.

I get worse battery with the one x+, so no probs with that

I'm sorry, i call hardcore bull..with the 2000mah battery on my old gs2 i would get roughly 10% batter battery than i do on my i5..maybe it did better on 6.1.2 than it does now on 6.1.3 ..ios 6 has been a russian roulette with versions and batt.

Wait for 5S, the battery capacity is bigger. Why the current Iphone with IOS 6 has good battery life? Because it has minimum interface, smaller screen resolution than any other competitor, partial multitasking. The battery technology the same as other, it's the OS simplicity what made the battery looks different.
Another good reason to pick apple is the apps ecosystem, i even got oil and gas apps for my needs from the apps store directly.

Okay, so for all my life, I have gone from hating iPhones (Mostly cause of the foxconn conditions and some other stuff) to not wanting an iPhone but letting iPhones be to preferring iPhones a bit (mostly cause of Android being as much fragmented as ever).

Also, because I cracked my HTC One X+'s screen and it's gonna cost me $150 to replace the darn thing.

So mostly, I want to switch to an iPhone, but I need some serious convincing to take the leap.

My brother has an iPhone 4, and it's cool, and amazing, considering that the model is like.. 2 years old now?

And I need reasons, thanks!

(Already got one, resale value! My phone is worth like $100 as it is on ebay, an iPhone 5 with a cracked screen is around $380)

I'm just asking: why blame Apple because of Foxconn conditions, then go ahead and buy an HTC (which is also made in Foxconn)?

Don't do it.
Think about the poor Chinese workers...

You should also stop buying clothes. The Asian industries that make clothes also treat their employees very badly. Either get expensive clothes manufactured in the western regions, or go naked.

From a long time Android User

I came across this thread and had to give my 2 cents about the subject considering I was using Android Smartphones since the old days when it just came out.

I always vowed against paying so much for a phone that I thought was "overpriced" and for "snoots" to brag about how much their phone was "worth". I couldn't have been more wrong in my life about that assumption. Let me tell you that switching from Android to iPhone was an eye opening experience.

I was sick of having to always root my Android phone to get better battery life and a lag free experience. It was fun learning all that stuff (rooting, custom rome, etc) but after I was done that was about all the fun there was. I still never got the battery life i hoped for and rarely found a custom rom that didn't break something on the phone. For example my HTC Thunderbolt was horrible and when i had to go custom rom (AOSP to get decent battery life) it broke the ability to use My Verizon app to check my bill or data used. It was always something that I had to live without. Really annoying.

So last month my girl said she was gonna try an iPhone for the first time just to see what it was like because she also was tired of Android and it's faults and horrible battery life. I called her a traitor and couldn't believe she was going to the "Dark Side"! She told me I can't believe I listened to you about Android and not going to iPhone. She told me I was wrong and it was the best phone she ever had. Her battery life was much longer and she loved the way iOS was smooth and lag free. I took her phone and played with it for an hour and was blown away at how smooth it was, when an app crashed (only once while I was doing a ton of things on it trying to test it out), it was instant and I didn't have to wait for it to close or reboot the phone. I simply opened the app again quickly and it was fine. The next day I went in and replaced my HTC Thunderbolt with a black iPhone from Verizon. Even my son told me he was disappointed in me and that I should have gotten the Samsung Galaxy S4. There was two reasons I didn't want the Galaxy S4. One, I didn't want that huge phone in my pocket. Way too big and if they had a smartphone that was like the Motorola Razr I would be buying that cause in my opinion these phones are getting way too big. To me it just looks ridiculous to hold a phone the size of a small brick to your ear. Not for me....Second reason is I know that bigger screen WILL Kill the Battery quicker than you can shake a stick at it. So it was time to try an iPhone for the first time EVER!

I have to say that the iPhone's ecosystem is ridiculously polished and pretty awesome. My girl bought me a Mac Pro Retina 15 completely maxed out (i7 Quadcore, 512GB SSD, 16GB RAM, 1GB GDDR5 nVidia GPU, etc) because I also hated Windows 8 (really only for touchscreen devices). OMG it was the right time to jump on the Apple train. I only wish I had done it earlier but honestly it's an investment. Macbooks are not cheap and I always had to go with PC just to get work done at a price I could afford. Heck I wouldn't be owning a mac if my girl didn't buy it for me but i'm sure glad she did. Between my iPhone and Macbook, I can easily sync basically everything from one device to the other without plugging in usb cords or transferring files via usb flash drives. Of course some things have to be done that way but Apple's ecosystem makes most of them a breeze.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think I can live without my Windows 7 Ultimate PC because there's just something more relaxing about sitting at a desk with a 32" monitor in front of me while I get major work done.

So as I wrap this up let me tell you that if you bought an iPhone 5 you will not be sorry my friend. I am glad I made the switch. I personally switch to iPhone for two reasons. Smaller and thinner phone makes it a breeze to put it in my pocket and actually sit down without it digging into my hip, better battery life. Once I got into the app store I was shockingly surprised that the apps and games are so polished and awesome that it makes androids store look like a infant with a poopy diaper running around smearing poop everywhere. Pair your iPhone with a Macbook and OMG it's total BLISS! Make the change and if you hate it, sell it and go back to Android. Great thing I realized about Apple's products is they keep their value over years easily over any Android Device ever made.

Hope that helps out a bit....

Okay, so for all my life, I have gone from hating iPhones (Mostly cause of the foxconn conditions and some other stuff)

Foxconn has like 80 major clients so you might want to check cause you could have things in your possession made there. Wouldn't want to be a hypocrite now would you?

As for us convincing you to get anything, truth is that that is a wasted exercise. You are the one that will be using it so you need to convince yourself. Go try one out, go buy it and use it for a week or whatever.

If you think the iPhone 4 is "cool and amazing", then you will like the iPhone 5. I've had one since day 1, and I like it a lot.

The x+ has an overclocked quad tegra 3 and a 2xxxmah battery, not the best mix

I chose iPhone over Droid because Apple releases timely software updates. Many companies that make Droids often neglect to issue patches, and often just abandon their older phones when a new flavor of Android arrives. It's a security hazard IMO to have an Internet connected computing device that does not get updates.

Other than that, my iPhone 5 has a responsive interface and high build quality. It works without any hassle.

So do i...on my ipad.why would you wanna lie?the only way an i5 can do that is if factory reseted and do wifi browsing..and even that, only by using safari.

You've essentially described the fallacy of iOS devices. Many of those software updates have more to do with stopping iOS jailbreaking than actually fixing security vulnerabilities.

Apple makes both HW and SW so it all works well together, there is no fragmentation, even older phones are tested with their newest iOS at least going back 1-2 years. The 3GS came out in 2009, but will not see iOS 7 which comes out in 2013. They just finally discontinued support for the original iPhone in 2007.

I love Android phones too but with the HW and SW all over the place, and many new phones coming with older OS, and the fact that carriers take so long to test the latest from Google and release it to your phone.

The entire Apple Echo system just works well, iCloud backups up you Calendar, Contacts, Photos, Email, Apps and App Data.

You can also go to an Apple Store all over the world to get your device support or replaced, can not do that with other phone manufacturers, not that they do not have support, but if you are saying visiting Italy like I was, went into an Apple store and was able to get help with my iPhone.

I thought jailbreaks were possible because of security holes?

Even if only some of the updates are fixes to security problems, that is better than the Android situation, where handset makers and carriers pretty much abandon lots of phones. Plenty of handsets out there still running versions of Froyo Android, with no hope of any patches at all.

And I need reasons, thanks!
It's not up to us to convince you. It's up to you to provide your criteria and then we can provide feedback on whether or not it's suited to you. No device is ever one-size-fits-all.

If you need convincing you can't beat first hand experience to convince yourself. Buy whatever it is that you're interested in, take if for a spin and decide before your return period runs out. Polling isn't going to convince you nor determine what is best suited to you.

I always vowed against paying so much for a phone that I thought was "overpriced" and for "snoots" to brag about how much their phone was "worth". I couldn't have been more wrong in my life about that assumption.
The only safe assumption in this regard is that you're wrong if you assume that your notion overpriced and worth are universal. Both are highly subjective no matter what the topic and the world doesn't revolve around any one person. Further, one's notion of these two terms can and does change.

Again don't judge what you haven't tried yourself.

I promise you, I get that much. What makes you not believe me?

My owning the device and using it minimaly for over 6 months now.i have never gotten over 6 hours usage time ( THAT WAS NOT PHANTOM USAGE-a nearly 3 year old bug).i5 just cannot get 10 hours usage time..

Apple hates people who jailbreak their iDevices. Also, if you're a security researcher, you're not allowed to report to Apple any iOS security vulnerabilities you find - the last guy who did that lost his developer privileges.

As for Android, that is why you root (i.e. jailbreak), unlock and flash AOSP/CM or other ROMs.
