The big reason I went Air over Mini. The iPhone 6. Because The larger your phone is the less you need a small tablet.

Think about it, the whole reason people justify a small tablet is because of portability. But, a larger iPhone is likely 11mo away so IF you're going to upgrade then how likely are you going to also need an ultra portable tablet?

I originally intended on getting a Retina Mini but I think long term the Air + iPhone 6 combo is the better choice (for me).

Good point. Not hat a bigger iPhone 6 is guaranteed, but definitely probable.

I bought the original mini when it came out, and while it was very light and easy to carry, I kept missing the bigger screen. Almost everything is easier on a bigger screen -- text is easier to read, games are easier to play, videos are more immersive, keyboard is easier to type. The only advantage the mini had over the iPad 3 was weight. The Air reduced the weight just enough that for me, it's no longer worth it to compromise on all the other things when I can just carry the Air.

yes, What they said !!!

And this:http://appleinsider.com/articles/13...ws-poorer-color-accuracy-than-apples-ipad-air

Because the iPad Air is Apple's flagship tablet and I have my phone if I want a smaller screen.

iPad Air is not the flagship model, and nowhere does Apple state this. The only "issues" you might have with the iPad mini is the color gamut. The speed is nearly identical, the chips are the same, the resolution is the same, the sharpness of the display is the same.

I beg to differ. iPad Air IS Apple's flagship iPad model. Nice try. If it's not, then what is?

Agree. As far as I've seen only tech writers have labeled iPad as flagship, not Apple.

actually the PPI is higher on the mini than on the Air, 326 ppi vs 264 ppi..

Heres a good comparison http://blog.laptopmag.com/ipad-air-vs-ipad-mini-retina

1. Colour range issue.
2. 100mhz difference.
3. iPad mini retina was too close in size to my Samsung Note 3.
4. Only $80 difference between the two (sale at bestbuy)

iPad Air is an iPad with a bigger display.
iPad mini is an iPad with a smaller display.

Last year's iPad mini really was the lesser iPad of the two, but this year, they are internally the same. Color gamut and 100mhz difference notwithstanding, to the average consumer they are two versions of the same iPad.

Hmm, that's true. Is that just a case of the display on the rMini being smaller than the Air? Because the resolution on both of them is exactly the same...

Either way, they're both quite Retina. If the rMini was ~400ppi or ~500ppi, then there would be a discernable difference in quality, but at this point, both of the displays have four pixels for each individual pixel in the original version, which, although by no means the strict definition of Retina, is what Retina personally means to me.*

*which, as an aside, makes the current iMac decidedly non-Retina, no matter how far away you sit away from the screen.

Had a mini to small for websites/tv/movies. Sold it for iPad 4 now have a Air. They are great for kids or womens handbags.

I got the air because of the bigger screen for sure, I don't like how small the screen is on the mini that's why I have my phone

Even if you happen to have a 5" S3 or nexus 5,the mini still adds 3" to that and is noticable.

Maybe its just me but i find the mini much easier and comfortable to type on and hold especially for longer periods. You can one hand it, or use it on a train and not look out of place. The thing is just perfection for size and weight, its the most portable tablet today.

I love the air but man it feels like a brick compared to the mini. Sure you get a bigger screen, but it doesnt mean its better. It means your eyes will have to move a lot more often and across a much bigger surface area.

The reduced size and weight of the Air remove the portability trade off between the older iPads and the mini for me. The Air is easy to throw in a bag and take along anywhere now. Goes with me to work every day and never feels to big or heavy.

the air is perfect for my eyes and is so light and easy to hold for me, i find it easier to use on a day to day basis and its light enough for me to hold with one hand, even if i had a phone with a 5+ inch screen i still will find my iPad much more useful. i was using my gf's iPad mini for an extended period of time and i still find my iPad air much more useful and easier for me to use, granted this is all my opinion and what suits me best, if the iPad mini is best for you, i couldnt respect it more, thats why there are a range of products, because everyone has different likes and dislikes of course

Last year I bought the mini because I was intrigued by the form factor. I was willing to accept the sacrifices (slower processor and inferior resolution) in order to enjoy the portability over the bigger ipad. In fact, I found myself using the mini much more than I ever did the bigger iPads simply because it was easier to hold in my hands. But the aforementioned sacrifices did gnaw at me all year long. And I couldn't wait to get the retina version when it came out.

And then the ipad Air was announced. NO SACRIFICES. It's incredibly light, unbelievably thin, supremely fast, and a joy to hold and use for long periods of time.

Suddenly, the advantages the mini once held for me were mitigated. In a big way. Now, I could purchase Apple's flagship tablet in a much smaller, portable form factor. I've had both the rMini and Air for 2 weeks now, and subconsciously grab the Air every time. When I do use the mini, it still feels like a sacrifice (despite the A7 and retina). When I use the Air, I feel like I'm using the BEST tablet money can buy. Compared to the rMini, it's the same thinness, and only a quarter of a pound heavier (which by the way when distributed over the larger Air makes it seem equal in weight to then mini due to it being less dense)

I wanted to love the Mini but it just doesn't seem like a complete product to me.

1. Color. It's noticeable. Does it matter in the long term? No. But, it's noticeable.
2. Not much more portable. Most will still need a bag for either iPad, so why compromise?
3. Text really clear but just too small...unless it's in a reading app where text can be sized readily and correctly. I don't want to rely on some stupid bookmarklet to half ass resize my text whilst browsing the web every time I need larger text.
4. Only $100 cheaper this time around, it makes going to the Air that much more of a no brainer.

So to be more concise, the Air is just as portable, better screen, bigger screen, faster (although one shouldn't base speed solely in their decision since the difference is so minimal), less expensive in comparison of last year's Mini and iPad 4, and overall a more complete experience.

Like I said, I gave both tablets a shot, and I can honestly afford both but my the rMini just doesn't have a place in my life. I've said it before, the rMinis looks and feels like an overblown e-reader. It's the ultimate iPad for reading (in a formatted app) and it does everything you can do in an iPad, but the size is just too restrictive for most things.

I'm having a tough time deciding, but definitely the mini just feels more comfortable holding and using it. They're both just as portable and both require a bag, but holding it there's a big difference.

Having used an ipad 2 for a year and a mini for a year, i can gaurentee you that the air is nowhere near as portable as the mini.

I did the, side by side and pulled out the measuring tape and the mino is 40% smaller.

Making the decision too. . .

Since I really do not like to buy and return things, I have been hanging out in our local Apple stores trying out both. I am coming from an iPad 3. For me . . .
rMini: The ultimate iBooks device. I think it's just perfect for reading, which is a major use of my iPad when traveling.
Air: Better for browsing. Better for movies.
For me, it probably comes down to getting an rMini or staying with my 3. I do not play games, and really do not have speed problems. The Air is lighter, but I would still not call it light.
