Why didn't apple just use the lightning cable for the watch?

Ah, the fact that the term MagSafe is used in both products threw me off. But, it still doesn't change the fact that they could've made the USB-C charger exclusively magnetic on the new MacBook without breaking its standard cross-product capabilities. Anyway, we're getting off topic here now. :p
