OP, you need to work on your willpower. :D

As for me, I am still rockin' my 2016 iPhone 7 Plus, and will likely keep it until 2020. 5G or bust!

OTOH, I just bought a 10.5" iPad Pro 6 months ago, and will likely buy the next 11" iPad Pro whenever that is. However, I can blame my wife for that, since she wants that iPad Pro for herself, so I have an excuse to upgrade. o_O

and then when that time rolls around, I just can’t seem to help myself but upgrade?

I have absolutely planned to keep my XR and not upgrade, but, with the keynote getting so close, I find myself being tempted...

Of course I also toy with going back to an 8 just because I’d like a smaller phone with Touch ID (although I know I’d probably get frustrated with trying to do anything on it).

Not sure why I can’t ever just be content with my tech.
I hope you don't buy into the "PRO" name. I think the name "PRO" will entice people to upgrade. Just remember, it's only a camera upgrade. The "PRO" name will still carry over to 2020. That's when I'll upgrade.

I kind of want to pickup an XS if the price is good. I have the XS Max, but I really like the size of the XS.

I’m on Verizon’s upgrade program (which mirrors Apple’s IUP) because I like having the option to upgrade if I want without having put a lot of money into the phone and hoping to resell it for a decent price. Hedging my bets, for the gamblers out there.

If I decide to change my mind after the keynote and upgrade, and I do have a few points where upgrading makes sense to me, then so what? All we’ve received to date is rumors. Based on those rumors, no, 2019 isn’t very exciting. The details and some reviews are where the final decision will be made.

I think in mobile everything comes down (sooner or later) to size and weight. For big screen and weight, you can look for an iPad, or even a macbook (air, pro, whatever).

At the end of the day you wish your phone is lighter and smaller. I bought and sent back the XR twice for this; in hands for a few minutes in the store is great; but after a few weeks on the pocket is just not right.

For me, weight is the key in mobile phones, and we all miss that.

I´m waiting for the Pixel 4, the 3 is 148 grams, exactly the iphone 8 weight.

I would let go the "premium" iphone material for some plastic if that reduce weight.

I'm on the iUP but I am considering just hanging onto my XS for another year. Figure it would line up with the 2020 phone better and when I go to get the 2020 phone I will have this one paid off and can either sell it or re-purpose it. Also might go with the XR replacement depending on the price.

In short, I have no idea what I'm gonna do yet lol.

Nah that really doesn’t lure me in. I mean yeah, I have an 11” iPP, but I also used a 5th generation iPad for 9 months in between my 2nd gen 12.9 and buying my 11”, and almost didn’t make the jump. I ultimately did because it was my only computing device at the time, and I just really wanted the better overall experience. Of course I’ve since bought another iMac to do work from home, so I don’t really NEED the iPP, but now I’m awaiting the new iOS features - it may turn out I don’t NEED the iMac. We shall see.

I like my XR, but I will admit the idea of a smaller, lighter phone appeals to me. Then again, so does the Max. I had it for a couple days, but the OLED seemed to mess with my eyes/head, so I gave it up.

I wish I could just find my sweet spot, which would likely be to have one of everything. ;-p

I know it’s the Intel modem, because my iPhone 7, works flawless on T-Mobile. I’m keeping my XS Max until Qualcomm is back in iPhones.

so the newer phones will still have Intel modems?
Its baffling that there is no repair or recall program for these 2018 phones. I know for sure that for me holding on to WIFI is problem on my XR.

Never knew that was so much of the issue, but that alone could make me go backwards. We have enough trouble with signal as it is.

I'm not sure what I will be doing this year, I have the iPhone X and it still feels like a great device. If the only big upgrade is going to be the camera, I may just stick with my X instead of upgrading. I can't say for sure until I've watched the keynote and seen what the iPhone 11 has to offer.

I've got my formula down, and I don't plan on deviating. It'll be every 3 years from here on out. Trade in fully owned phone, and pay 2/3rd the price.

I use up all the value in the phone, and still get something for it. Doesn't mean I won't live vicariously however.

Surely thread title should have been

“HI, MY NAME IS…AND I’M AN APPLEHOLIC”

And you should have opened your post by saying something like

“Hi, my name is… and I’m an Appleholic. As an Appleholic, I could not stop buying iPhones. Even when my friends diagnosed me with Apple disease, I could not stop buying. I admitted my buying was injurious, yet I knew, as right as the sun would rise tomorrow, I would buy again. I can’t stop buying. This is the horror and hopelessness of being an Appleholic. Yet, here I am, as a member of Appleholics Anonymous, another year another purchase, zero years sober!

How is this possible! Will I be forever an Appleholic and buy every iPhone Apple release?”

I wasn't going to upgrade from my max but when I thought about it its barely going to cost me anything, Im selling my max for $850 and I just applied for a credit card about a week ago that has a $200 welcome bonus when you spend $1000, so I can basically get the new iPhone for about $50 which is not bad imo...

Or actually $250, plus the tax on the $1000. Don't fool yourself. ;) Still not too bad though.

$850 + $200 = $1050

new iPhone 64GB will be $1100.... so $1100 - $1050 = $50+tax where did you get the 250 from?

I even waited 6 extra months to buy my XS Max thinking Apple fixed the issue, but nope they haven’t. I could upgrade this year but I don’t want to take a chance with Intel’s modem again.

If you don't need to update, then it makes sense to wait anyway, for 5G.

I used to somewhat say that back in the dark ages when we had two year contracts and we would get charged with early upgrade fees if we wanted a new phone when the new one came out a year later. I bloody love being a member of the iPhone Upgrade Program now.

I wonder if PWM will be gone on these OLEDs and if the panels will be generation(s) better

And if battery life will get on XR level

I had that problem before but not anymore. I’m so not excited for this upcoming iPhone.

Unfortunately, I doubt the PWM will be changed in any meaningful way. I think the best we can hope for is that Apple adds DC Dimming as an accessibility option in iOS14 or something.
