I hope you're kidding. Apple uses the same components that other PC OEM's use, and all of them are manufactured for very cheap at the same factories in China. Anything else they say, and its complete hype and advertising.

Hype? yup

I don't think apple advertising having special components in them tho (besides the original processor in the AIR, but thats because they were the only ones at the time using it). I know they talked about the AIR at the keynote, but other than that has apple ever said they have specialty parts in a commercial? (I honestly don't know)

I don't personally recall one off the top of my head, but it's certainly the impression people like to give off.

And I know the component issue personally because my mom works with a company that manufactures the major components for the iPods and iPhones.... who also make the mainboards for XBOX 360's, HP notebooks, and other products from other companies.

Yea thats the thing though, ignorance is everywhere, even in apple fans.

Right, and right now as much as I'd love to get a new Mac, i'm going to wait and see what happens. Voting with my wallet is the only way for Apple to make any changes I like, and I can afford to hold on for a bit

Well, no offense, but i HIGHLY doubt Apple will be making any changes to their current business strategy. Over the past year, they've given us over-priced machines, with lower specs than comparable PC's, and yet they've seen record after record quarter. Usability and support means a lot to the end customer, and that's what Apple excels in. The one thing I don't agree with is not having the OPTION for higher end specs. Of course, it's Apple, so it'll cost more than the PC version, but not having the option is kind of disappointing.

And that's fine by me, they can keep taking their profits but I choose to be informed about my products, and I've enjoyed their products when they suit my needs (like the iPhone). Simply giving those options would make a lot of sense and be a step in the right direction, but until then, I can build a hackintosh or continue using my PC (which I do for gaming mostly anyways) until then.

While you are entitled to your opinion (and you have some great reasons considering your personal beleifs) I cant help but to take offense to this. It seems to imply people who buy macs are ignorant.

OffTopic: If you MBP is so great, may I ask your method of playing games on it?

On topic, I think it has something to do with the drivers.

It doesn't really have anything to do with the drivers, and if you bought a MBP as your personal gaming rig (meaning, thats the main purpose you bought it for) then you clearly have no clue about computers.

Performance of the MacBook Pro for games does depend on good optimised drivers. Apple supplied ones are pretty gash.. For Boot Camp, use the official beta NVIDIA laptop ones.

And the MacBook Pro is more than capable of playing hardcore games. Okay, it isn't going to be as good as a dedicated gaming rig, but for the size and weight its more than good enough.

Of course not, I have my Windows 7 Desktop for that :p

Right, that came out harsh and in the wrong way, but I meant that if the product isn't what makes sense for my wallet based on what I know, I'm not going to be lured in and hopefully others understand that as well

I have seen over the years that apple tends to use lower end video hardware in there stuff compared to the pc. I see they now have 2GB video cards out with quad cords but the imac top of the line only gets 512MB 1 core. Is it that mac's do not need as much video power as the pc does? or were macs not made for high end games etc?

Probably because their market research and sales results say high end video cards aren't necessary to appeal to the majority of users.
