Why do people think there will be lines?

there will probably be lines... it might be almost the same phone, but it's the 3G... a lot of people have been waiting for it... also, it's new and exciting and from apple... i am predicting lines...

I didn't buy an iPhone last year because I was waiting for 3G, I know quite a few of my friends who were doing the same thing. I'm also thinking there will be lines.

even though i don't think there will be long lines, i did schedule that day off from work just so i can get all my normal routine items out of the way early (gym and run to the bank).

apple stores will probably be the most congested, but on the flip side, probably have more of an ambient feel for the shopping experience.

I think there are two different questions, with different answers. The first is whether there will be lines -- and it seems like the answer is yes, just because we constantly hear people say they are going to wait in line. The second question is whether you need to wait in line to get an iPhone on July 11 (or that weekend) -- and based on last year's experience, I really think the answer is no. I'm confident that Apple will have plenty of phones on hand for those of us who show up that evening or later that weekend, just like they did a year ago.

O2's website states that upgrades from iPhone to iPhone 3G will only be available through their website so I'm hoping they'll be on the ball and I'll have mine delivered by Courier on the 11th. Not holding my breath, though
