Thats because a lot doesn't make heavy intensive prologued dutyies,
film,heavy 3D..etc.
numbers mean but the majority of people who buy Air or MacBookPro 13 can't define desktop as useless or surpassed,if they would then also MacBookPro Quad would be not so important to be built still, but instead Apple released the retina one, instead of giving us just Iphones,Ipads and Airs.
Do you imagine an Apple without desktop?Would be as just the greater mobile company of the moment.
And lastly,we are here just because Imac are so slow to come out, because we need new Imacs!

They don't any more. >80% of all Macs sold are notebooks, a number that is headed in only one direction.

The number is high, mainly because majority of the people buying mac laptops are PC converts. I believe that after a while, once new mac users/PC converts gain confidence on OS X, Apple hardware, Bootcamp, etc., then their next purchase would more likely be the iMac or Mac Pro.

Macbook Pro is an awesome machine, but nothing can compensate the all-in-one 27" display experience, especially if you want a machine for home.

As time passes by, users who already have a Macbook pro/air will more likely keep their old machines and not sell them. And instead would buy a full power iMac/Mac Pro.

Just my thoughts.

You are absolutely right.

What about passion for a specific familly of Macs? the iMac was a revolution and a lot of iMacs users are faithfull to this familly becaseu it really changed their lifes.

Out of curiosity, the only reason why I have a Mac is that I wanted a windows notebook, mostly to be a second computer when my PC crashes and have acess to the internet. I would probably never use it, but its there just in case. Because of this fact, I decided to get "something diferent" and learn about macintosh...

Now I am a Mac user. I bet this happens to a lot of people.

That is a good reason too. I'm a big fan of the iMac for several reason. One of the, is that I dig it as a machine all the way through. It's clean, stylish and really well made. I know the laptops are too but there's just something about the iMac I always loved.

Even though Apple now make more money because of all the casual/consumer users (web surfing, email and light photo use) over the last 8 years, it's a shame that the "real" computer users (video making maybe, music making maybe, heavy photo work maybe, programming/development maybe) have to suffer for the majority casual population! It's innovation that drives computer tech forward, not casual lightweight users; they drive the 'profit margins'.
It's all for the shareholders isn't it... SUCKS.

Hey I was just wondering why people use Mac desktops(including PPC's) instead of a powerful Macbook Pro? Currently, the Macbook Pro's can be more powerful then some of the Mac desktops and you can go to any room in your home with the laptop.

I use both. I have my iMac as my main computer for long projects occasional gaming with WoW or Diablo, it also has Windows 7 on a separate partition.

My laptop is used for class and I can use it to work on projects when I'm not able to be home.

We(my wife and I) still have or iMacs mainly because we prefer the larger screen.

Also, when any type of gaming is concerned, I feel more comfortable when my hands aren't so close together and resting on the laptop.

I guess I could have bought a dock, the thunderbolt display and mouse and keyboard then just grab the laptop when I'm on the go but like others have said, I'm just in the position where I can have both and I prefer it that way.

I also have quite a few externals that I keep connected to my desktops. BluRay drive, 5 external HDD's, a 2nd monitor, iPhone and iPad docks and a decent set of 2.1 speakers for music.

I do really like my MBA and my iMac just in different ways for different reasons.

Having a 27" alongside the Air offers great flexibility and a wide range of usage options. 27" is one extreme, and 11" the other, great contrast yet compliments each other very nicely.

The rMBP is a powerhouse workstation, but I'd still rather have a powerful desktop as I have no need to bring all that power with me on the road. I don't make a living on the road, for those who do the rMBP is probably god send to many.

Spot on. I moved to mac in 2010 with an air and now I find myself waiting for the new iMac to be launched. Want to get rid of my of box!

Same here. Except I have a 2011 Macbook Pro. And I have a PC Desktop that runs Windows 7 and I have an old PC desktop that I run Linux on.

Moar Power for Less Wonga

I own a top-of-the-line 2011 27" iMac. It does EVERYTHING: picture sorting, hardcore gaming, internet browsing, schoolwork, video editing, and so much more.

I also own a late-2009 Macbook. It doesn't do everything my iMac does, but it's a nice portable computer to have with me on the go... although the iMac is amazingly portable for a desktop.

I know not everyone can afford this combination of a desktop and a laptop (I'm admittedly quite lucky to have ended up with these two machines) but for those who can achieve it, the flexibility if provides is astounding. I don't have to compromise power and portability because I have both, and it's incredibly liberating.

Because the 27" iMac is beautiful. And in my opinion, and iMac + iPad makes more sense than a laptop plus external LCD. That's just me though, I'm not everybody.

I see it going one way, but not way you are predicting. I have a feeling the Desktop market will probably plateau in the next year or two. And laptops sales will really start to fall as tablets become more powerful and develop. Especially people who just browse the web, and make light use of other features.

I still see quite a few people getting tablets for the portability, but have a desktop too for power. (that is my plan).

my plan as well, and I assume many others as well. A lot of heavy work is not suited for mobility. And tablets are a good way to bring the simple tasks and fun stuff around.

Well my reason is this, I have an office and damn if I am going to have a computer follow me around the house. My phone is more than sufficient to do mail with anywhere in the house and for reading I have a Kindle and even an iPad.

I never understood people who needed to drag a laptop around home. My office is setup to be a great work environment with a great chair and desk combination which lets me work for hours in comfort.

Let alone I have never met a trackpad or laptop keyboard that was enjoyable to use long term

I see. I like having a big screen attached to my Mini and my G5; something the laptop cannot do. The Macbook Pro is good for when I need the portability, though.
