Are you talking about those headphones they give out on airplanes? Because I do agree those are worse haha

Well yea those are horrible, haha... but the Phillips GoGear mp3 player that I have (obviously it's not high end) came with crappier headphones then Apples, that's why I was saying that they aren't the worst possible headphones. And for some reason, even though many complain about them falling out, I don't have that problem, but I also dont run/work out with them.

Only thing I like about their earphones is the remote button. The feel of the click along with the volume up/down buttons haven't been matched by the headphones that I can buy.

Jobs to the earphone designer: "Who cares if the earphones sounds like crap, I don't so nobody else will! I just want you to make the buttons perfect! You hear me? Perfect!! Now get back to work!"

I'm sure that's what Steve Jobs said.

Anyways, I dont think you should expect top of the line earphones to be included with an an Apple product. Sure they make mp3 players, but they started out with computers. It's not like they are some sort of mp3 player company where all they do is make mp3 players. If they were, then I'd think "what the hell, these are the earphones they give us?" Everything they give out is near universal for their products, the charging cords, earphones, etc. It's more cost effective (for them).

They should atleast change to in ear with a few different size rubbers. Especially with iPods as many are given to kids and the current apple ear buds can physically hurt them to the point they are unusable.

Actually they are better then synthiser and these two are the best options avalable here in India... also it depends upon the price too... they have. Rabge from 20$ to hundreds of $$ so it depends upon the model of headphones too

They are a cheap, low quality manufacturer.

Ironic..

Funny how Apple produces the world's most famous music player yet their bundled earphones suck. I saw a HTC ad with a phone paired with Beats earphones. But then again, yes it would increase the cost of production.

Htc sensation xe with so called Beats headphone is no more than marketing gimmick. It's not much better than iPhone stock headset.

It's not Beats Tour that comes with it. Just a cheap headphone with Beats logo on it. Believe me I've tried one, it's really puny, even for a Beats :p

Cannot agree more, I hate the beats brand name because they really don't produce that great of quality stuff, it just is ridiculously overpriced because of the Dre name. All the stuff that has "beats audio" is just a marketing gimmick to make people think it will sound better so they pay more. I've tried most of the beats products and nothing they have really impressed me. Those headphones are definitely not worth the 200$+ price tag.

It'd be cool if they at least offered an option to upgrade, like to some v-modas or entry-level Etymotics. The only thing the included headphones are good for is flossing your ass.

if it weren't for the remote which i find essential i would have ditched the original earphones as soon as i opened the box.

if anyone knows of better earphones with a similar remote please advise!!

Because if you bought iPod Shuffle with super awesome earphones for $49 and the earphones itself would cost $70 (we all know Apple's pricing) that would be weird.

I doubt them putting different earphones in Shuffle box and different in the iPhone.

I got the Marshall Minor FX, they have a remote/mic that works very well. I got them because of the way they hook into your ear, the Apple ones would fall out as soon as I let go. They come with 4 different sizes of silicone ear pads to get a good fit.

These stay in my ear while jogging, riding and jumping horses. I am very hard on earphones and these have lasted six months so far.

I am not an audiophile so can't comment on the sound quality, Apple earphones sound good to me. :) They are worth $60 just to stay in my ears.

Because then you can never use them and keep them in mint condition for when you are going to resell your iPhone :)

I always thought that Apple should include better headphones, mostly because their devices are so heavily focused on music. Then again, most music lovers have a pair of headphones that they bought separate, myself included.

To be honest, I am kind of surprised there is even still a headphone jack on the iPhone.

Love the comic in your sig.

The earphones that came with my past 3 iPods (over the years of 2005-2010) broke within a month of regular use. They literally fell apart. Yes, I was  .

However, interestingly, the earphones that came with my iPhone 4s have remained in perfect shape since the day I got it, which was 6 months ago, and with pretty heavy use.

I usually toss out the included headphones because they are complete *****. They hurt, sound like ***** and are of poor build quality. I use V Moda Vibe Duo. Anyone that says that they are happy with the free included headphones are in total denial what good headphones should be or are liars.

Like Mee M6s I have for the gym, they have the adjustable wire to hold around your ear and are a very nice and comfy fit in your ear canal. Sound amazing for 20 bucks or whatever I paid for them. My dog got a hold of my Klipsch S4i and made a chew toy out of them, but that set is one of the best under 100 bucks, think I just saw a slickdeals offer for them at around 30-35.

I hate the stock Apple buds, uncomfortable, built like crap, and sound awful vs even a cheap pair of $10 Skull Candies.

I have 2 brand new pair that came with my last 2 iPhones. Theyre not good at all. And I have to disagree with whoever said that the Beats headphones arent that good. I have the Solo's and the iBeats and the iBeats are my favorite pair of headphones out of all the headphones Ive had and im sort of an audio junky.

Try the Sony MDREX38iP/BLK EX Earbud. I haven't used it myself, but it's specially made for Apple products so it has the same function controls as Apple's earphones. The convenient ability to control my iPhone with my earphones while my phone is in my pocket is the only reason why I've stayed with Apple's earphones. It doesn't look like too many other manufactures make fully compatible alternatives.

There are plenty of better sounding earphones but after doing a quick search the Sony is the only real alternative I can find that has all the function controls of Apple's earphones, but are reported to have better sound.

I do own better sounding earphones, but they don't even have a microphone so I barely use them with my iPhone.

If you like lots of bass the Beats products are great. But if you want overall clarity and balanced sound, I'll take my wife's B&W P5's over anything that Beats/Monster Audio makes. I know the P5's aren't earbuds, but B&W makes buds too...

Earphones that comes with a phone usually are typical earphones that most typical consumers would appreciate having. What I meant is most consumers would be satisfied enough to have a decent earphone (to them) included in the box that they can use straight away, compatible with their new device.

On the other hand, audiophiles should consider 3rd party alternatives. If Apple were to place include the Shure SE53 earphones in the box which is currently the best earphone on the market now (Its excellent, I own one!), expect the iPhone to cost almost 1000+ for the base model.

But hey, I'm not trying to defend Apple! Their earphones CAN be improved alot. Audio quality is neither mediocre or excellent . They are simply decent enough for the average joe, not for music addicts an audiphiles. Apple could actually replace their jacks with L-shaped jacks. I've had alot of iPhone earphones that comes in the box and the straight jacks are always prone to splitting, revealing the wiring inside the cable. Also, their earphones are pretty easy to spoil such that a couple of drops and tumbles could actually render one or even both sides of the earphone speakers useless.
