And that is why they are the most overrated band in the history of music.

You could be right, I personally don't have an unbiased opinion--I love the music of the Beatles--but I grew up with it. So it is hard for me to judge overhype--but certainly there were other artists as influential if not more so.

An FM classic rock station of my acquaintance, has been playing Beatle breaks for months and months. Annoying.

Additionally, some old twit from British Telly, who had a show called Saturday Club, does something called Breakfast With The Beatles, essentially a packaged informercial.

You keep hearing the same back stories over and over again, it then it goes back to the "beginnings", and blathers on and on. Interminable.

Can Steve be this devious??

Nah.

EDIT: OMG, it's on now, something about Nowhere Man, and George putting on weight. This one features Tiny Tim. Have you heard Tim sing Nowhere Man? Please, get a gun and kill me now.

EDIT EDIT: Screw you lot, you can suffer too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5EcrraNTQo

I'm 29 years old and by no means did I grow up in the Beatles generation - that was way before my time. However, I've been listening to them for as long as I can remember. I've always liked their music, but I do tend to veer towards the later end of their catalog, the more experimental tracks. However, I love the simpler songs they put out - think "Martha, My Dear"

With today's iTunes announcement after all that hype, Apple successfully made The Beatles an instant target of hate. That's all.

I don't hate The Beatles - I just take issue when people go on and on about how influential they were. I've had people tell me "Oh, The Beatles changed the face of music!" "The Beatles gave us all the effects and styles we have today!" "The Beatles blah blah blah" when in fact they were simply very a popular pop group, nothing more. Paul could only write jingles, and John was a monster in real life with no sense of melody. Starkey and Harrison did better on their own, when they could put together a listenable, tuneful song.

And the whole Apple "A day you'll never forget" tripe is a load of crap.

I don't hate the group, but I can't stand the magnitude of hype surrounding them.

You are probably right about them being over-hyped.

Part of what makes this an interesting announcement is the backdrop of Apple Inc vs. Apple Corps...he he...that and Guy Goma on the BBC. :)

<sigh>

I don't think anyone who is unhappy today is so because they "hate the Beatles." They're unhappy because Apple's announcement -- after telling us they were going to introduce something we'd "never forget" -- was incredibly, incredibly underwhelming.

Well, anyone who buys into unreasonable hype is set for constant disappointment, whether it be from the Beatles, Apple, or whatever. ;)

I think you're talking about the Who.

As for Apples announcement... meh... tell me something really exciting.

The Who was much better than The Beatles. Pete Townsend could blow John Paul and George off the stage.

They're comparable to Modern warfare 2. Over hyped and overall just not very good. I think all of there music is over played and too plain. But thats just my opinion.
