Why do you think apple went with white bezels?

Novelty is my guess but to not even offer a black bezel option is what’s bonkers to me

especially since all X style phones were black bezel, Se2 black bezel, the product red 8 black bezel from 7 product red being white only

I’m sure dbrand or someone will offer a touch up decal for converting it to black but it legitimately boggles my mind

I think white bezel old style iPads can look cool same with old style iPhones but again lack of choice - I would love to have been a fly on the wall in the meeting room in Cupertino to understand the thinking

others think it’s to upsell a 27” replacement like how 24” is the 21.5” replacement but still. Even entry pro and the MacBook Air are black bezels and m1

I think Apple used the plastic iMac as inspiration. Those had the same white bezels and flat backs.

I considered that but it’s retro inspired gone wrong

big difference between the foggy white all plastic bezel raised from the screen on those iMacs and an aluminum chin and white glass that’s seamless with the screen glass

maybe similar to old iBooks we can paint or decal behind the bezel... one can dream

eagerly waiting for ifixit to tell me how many barrels of solvent will be needed to de-glue this.

Whilst not a fan of the white it does match the pastel shades. A black border with those colours would look even worse and if they made the bezels the same colour as the chin I doubt that would look great either.

I won’t lie the crappy mock up I did with a black bezel in my opinion much better, if I had to choose though I would probably go with the darker shade of the 2 toned color or even better a mixture where is the dark grey going towards black thats Color shifted towards your color so under most of the lights you see it as Black but under the right light it’s got color to it.

The X style iPhones were mentioned in regards to the black notch etc. so thought my poll would be a little relevant. Curious to see if anyone else would like the return of white bezels to the iphone after seeing the new thin white bezels on iMac.

Look at the other thread of the mocked black bezel 2021 iMac with logo.

If they did that, it looks EXACTLY THE SAME as 2007 iMacs.

My issue is less with the white, but the over-colourization of the iMac.

From tinted aluminium stand to keyboard and mouse, to monitor edges, it just looks tacky.
Less is more. Just colourize the back and if you must, the chin.

reminds me of like the 2012-2015 MBP's not having MBP lettering on the bottom bezel and then seeing a return of it 2016 onward

i’m sure someone without a grade schoolers understanding of the photo editor can do a better job but it gets the point across.

even with my lack of skill I prefer the black bezels

Thees iMacs created for people, who do not care about computing at all, so there is no talk what is good for computer and what is not. Those toys are created for people who care only about how iMac looks like in their room, that's it. And is it possible to get iMac of the same colour as the new hairdressing. And should look different to previous. DIFFERENT, stylish maybe, not better. That's why bezels are white, no logo etc. Not computers, but nice furniture, which more of that provides e-mailing and net-surfing, conferencing and funny videos and photos exchange. They have to match not your tasks, but coffee machine colour. And thus sell well. Hope 32" (or whatever big) versions will have different approach...
