Probably because your opinion is not as interesting as you think it is.

I don't think my opinion is interesting... I'm just saying why do people pay a lot more money for an Apple product which is supposed to have a quality tag attached to it and it doesn't. The only difference between it and a normal PC notebook is OSX, so why cost £400 odd more? OSX doesn't costs that much...

Because enough people will buy it when Apple charges that much for it.

One could say the same about the MBP. It costs more then a white MacBook, but it uses a lot of the same parts. Why pay more? On top of that, Most people don't even need the power of a white MacBook, much less a MBP.

I just want to make sure I understand correctly. You started a thread simply to bash a product that you don't own and have no interest in buying. And now your irritated that no one else is jumping on the band wagon with you. Hmmm? How in any way is this contributing to anything?

I didn't start the thread to bash the product, I wanted to know why people buy it because quite frankly I think it is terrible value for money.

Every Apple mobile product at least uses the 9400M G and a Core 2 Duo processor. There's barely any differentiation.

You're going to need to move up to the 9600M GT to notice something worth mentioning or go refurbished previous generation MBP.

Even the Mac mini has the 9400M G.

I thought it was great value for money. So I bought one and I still think it's great. I don't think you should buy one. You won't like it.

Its like asking why people buy a 3 series BMW over a 5 series. They buy the white MacBook because its what they can afford and because its a quality product. Just because you picked one up and it felt "cheap" to you doesn't mean its a poorly built product. Not everyone is as hard to please as you.

I think it looks fine, its just the screen in it that is shockingly bad. It HAS to use the worlds worst 13" notebook screen, Ive never seen anything nearly as bad made after 2002.

cause ppl are broke and want a mac

I am not broke by any means, and the whitebook was my first choice for a portable machine. I personally like the look of the white and black macbooks more than the new aluminum ones, not to say that 8g of ram in a portable machine is tremendous for people that actually need that. I personally dont need ddr3 ram or a better screen. I use this computer for college (Criminal Justice) and it is more than powerful enough for what i need it to do.

So to answer your question, i bought the white macbook because a. i think it looks better than the aluminum body (simply an opinion) and b. the higher prices and hardware of the "Pros" just does not justify it for me.

Well my piece of junk looks just the same and runs just as well as it did in 2006. What a horrible value!

With better hardware and a lower price now, it's an even better value. But now that something else that is better costs more, the lower-price thing is garbage. Thanks for letting me know as I wasn't aware of this.

.. I hate the inner of the MacBook, it looks discoloured compared to the white outer case.//

Why in the world would anyone care about the color inside? You aren't going to see it unless you open it, and even then you aren't going to carry it around like that.

And what's the point of this thread, since the only purpose seems to be complaining about the MacBook? Opening a thread that only bashes the computer is not going to get good response here.

Well... because of OS X and because they're the best notebooks available. No f*ing around with 11", 12", 13", ..., 19" notebooks, like the Vaios, or with that retarded design of Dell, and so on. I had been thinking about a notebook with hackint0sh before buying my 13" MBP, and now I realize they're so awesome machines.

You don't know what you're talking about, you're frustrated, and have got too much spare time, if you come asking such questions and actually insisting on it. I know a lot of programmers, for example, who have got other 4 Windows/*NIX machines, and have bought a white MacBook because they needed the cheapest portable OS X machine available...

Have fun!

What £400 are you referring to? What is the other computer you are compering to?

I like white Macbooks. ( dont know anything about their screen though )

they are reliable, cheap (for apple at least) and it gives people the OSX experience, in a small 13" package, which is strong, and durable.. despite the supposed discolourisation and cracks that people have.

hmm

Well in my opinion its cheap and clunky. I hate the inner of the MacBook, it looks discoloured compared to the white outer case. The screen is also just terrible compared to some PCs I've seen!

It's a different color for a reason. That panel was originally the same color white as the rest of the machine - and some were becoming discolored from people's wrists.

I bought a Marware wrist rest cover - problem avoided.

Ok it's obviously durable but it looks horrible and feels horrible. Also why is no one commenting on the horrific screen, that's my main issue with the notebook!

*shrug* Mine's nearly three years old, so it's obviously a few generations older than the current model - but I think the screen looks fine. I don't have any trouble with it.

As for looking and feeling horrible - I think the all-white look is pretty cool. It stands out from other notebook computers and looks really clean. I don't know about the feel; but then, I'm not using it as a pillow, so I don't really give a rat's fart what it feels like. To each his own.

I can't agree with you here. I think my MB is definitely a quality product; I wouldn't have bought it otherwise.

It has an NVidia graphics adapter; a typical PC notebook doesn't.

It has Firewire; a typical PC notebook doesn't.

It has a 1280x800 screen in a compact 13" size; good luck even finding that resolution on a PC notebook these days, and if you do chances are it's at least a 14", and more likely a 15.4". I'm seeing more and more screens going to 1366x768 - to market them as a pseudo-HD screen. I don't like those.

I can easily get 4 1/2 hours of battery life, even with a 3-year-old battery with over 150 cycles. On a good day, if I don't use the optical drive or play a lot of video, 5 1/2 hours isn't unheard of. I've never had a PC notebook give me more than 2 1/2 hours, and more commonly I get about 1:45 out of my employer-provided Dell.

Perhaps none of these differences matter to you, so you say "the only difference is OS X." Maybe what you mean to say is "the only difference that matters to me is OS X."

Have to agree with you. I think the white MacBook is a good budget machine. It packs enough power in a small, light form factor. I have one (not the NVIDIA model) and it doesn't get discolored unless you intentionally spill something on it or eat while using it. My Dad is currently using it and even though he never cleans his machine, it still looks pretty clean.

Cracks and discoloration are no more. I haven't seen any recent models that have been in that way in over a year. Mine, which is 2 years old this November, doesn't have that either.

I had a white macbook....it was OK, but I wouldn't have a mac right now unless it was aluminum. I would get a $600 win7 PC (maybe an Asus) before going back to a crackbook.

I still like the white macbook very much... As another poster in this thread, the white macbook is the osx computer that made me switch in june 2006. It was at the time a revolutionary computer, with a perfect keyboard, amazing features at the time for its price, and a design that hasn't aged much... The fact that the case has not received any change since 2006 is a tribute to a very successful design... It may sound difficult to believe, but this little thing still triggers some looks of envy from my students.

So when I decided that I wanted a new laptop (the first generation one was not that slow, but I wanted it to accept 4Gb of ram, to run a bit cooler, and the battery to last a bit longer as well), I bought a new white macbook when specs got bumped to use the nvidia mb and integrated graphics (not that I care much for games though...), the unibody macbook being just overpriced at the time, and I was not satisfied of the build quality either (slanted keys...) for what I could see in stores...

If I had to buy a new laptop today, yes I would probably choose the 13" macbook pro over the white macbook, the price being much more reasonable, and for the longer-lasting battery (although I get something like 6 hours with the white macbook, so it is not a bad performer either...)

That said, a lower entry price point is still needed, and the white macbook still has its <<raison d'être>> in Apple's line of laptops... The urge to spend just a little more is certainly bigger now, but still...
