i was about to get the white macbook with 4gb of ram and a 500gb hdd for the same price as an aluminum one, but then they refreshed the pro line and i couldnt say no to the the 15in at a new lower price.

people can and will be happy with the white macbook as long as it is being produced. the major market for that machine is new college kids whos college wants them to have macs, and the majority dont notice the "crappy screen" and like its been said its is a good value is you really want to have a mac. Granted $200 isnt that big of a price hike for the aluminum one, but that's still $200 that some people dont want to spend.

I moved from the alum macbook to a white macbook. It's just a neat little machine. Is it my pro machine, no....that's why I have a pro. But for 100% of my home stuff, it's just right.

I know it's cheaper, and I expect its quality to go downhill a bit but it is still expensive to a regular PC laptop which is also junkie plastic! The only benefit you get is OSX!

OSX isn't a good enough reason to buy one over a PC Laptop...I use $600 PC HP's and Dells at my school- they are complete JUNK- have no battery life, are always updating when I need kids to learn, and are very very slow. I would rather spend a couple hundred more to get a better machine I don't get as frustrated with...notice I said AS frustrated...I do have little issues with my MacBook- but not near as many- When I want my students to learn 2nd or 3rd grade curriculum I put them on my MacBook, when I want them to learn how to spell words (like update, OK, YES, NO, Later, Please Wait, Virus Alert, etc.) I have them use the PC's. :D

I beg to differ also that OSX is the only thing diff than a reg. pc laptop. The finger scrolling stuff works great, the magsafe has saved my MacBook many many times, they keyboard is nicer than many PC's I use, the battery life is better than any similar PC laptop I use, I don't have to buy virus software, and I can get a word processing/spread sheet, etc. software suite for only $41 for it. Just a few things off the top of my head. I am sure there are others. (OF course there are a few drawbacks to a MacBook as well- not everything is better or cheaper for sure)

hmmm maybe because there reliable ? and have been tried and tested for 3+ years unlike your unibody that dents with the slightest touch and has video problems :p if it wasn't a good computer apple wouldn't still be selling it

It's still a great laptop. I had the black macbook and other then the fact that the new macbook is newer I'd be perfectly happy if I had to go back to the it.

My late 2007 BlackBook is almost indistinguishable from new. My friend's first generation aluminum MacBook has dents. Draw your own conclusions. :D

I was in the Apple store today and all the machines are just beautiful until you find the white MacBook. It doesn't fit in, it feels cheap, the screen is HORRIFIC! Why would anyone pay premium price for that piece of junk!??

It's not plastic, it's polycarbonate. I still have a G3 iBook that's working just fine. It's on its third battery, though stuck on Tiger.

hehe..

Well, I have one but I didn't buy it :D
anyway, I think it's cute!! :p

That's a bit like saying "it's not a computer, it's a notebook." Polycarbonate is a kind of plastic.

Congratulations, Captain Obvious

We all know they're both plastics, but that doesn't mean there aren't cheap, low-quality plastics and sturdy, high-quality plastics. They're just using them as a differentiating point for the sake of ease.

What it all boils down to is are you willing to spend an extra $300 on arguably worthy features. Everything else is pretty much the same.

Me? I'd just buy an iMac.

and it's not a piece of junk, and it's not premium prices :/

apple has always tried to have have a low end system for people, shold they get rid of shuffles too :/

i have put your name forward to MS for their next bargain hunters add

Problems With the Whitebook

My school Has over 600 whitebooks and overall they are a great computer to use and the OS is one of the best their is. The only downside is the quality of the top case. As a result of students slamming the lid closed the 2 tabs at the top of the bezel crack the bottom of the top case and cause 2 holes appear on the case. The 2nd problem is the discoloration when student type they dirty the area around the trackpad. but oh well

Overall a great computer :apple:

Before i bought my mbp, I was SERIOUSLY considering the white macbook, one of those reasons...was the look....I really liked the look of the white book at the time, more so than the unibody. I know many of you are thinking 'crazy right:rolleyes:

But then WWDC was just around the corner, so I waited... and obviously the new 13" mbp was worth the extra pounds. So I went with that.
