And they only have 1 white phone. It's called silver. The other two are gold and space grey.

This makes no sense. Both Silver and Gold have the same amount of white so why is one "white" but not the other?

For the purpose of this thread, Space Gray is "black" and Silver and Gold are "white."

so i am wrong because of my colour choice? I dont think so! Its a phone, its not a car or a house. In a year or 2 years everyone will swap phones for the new latest and greatest iphone.

You actually took that pic seriously? It was a sarcastic post.

Silver as a color is white. Gold as a color is gold

Silver as a color is white. Gold as a color is gold

That may be, but that's semantics and as silly as some posters saying "There's no white iPhones, only Silver" just because Apple changed marketing it from "White and Silver" to "Silver." Likewise, we still have black iPhones even though it's now the lighter Space Gray.

I personally do not like the black model iPhone because it reminds me of the original and 3G model. I want my new device to look new, Not old. The current black looks old even when it's brand new.

White looks way cleaner, has better sex appeal (J/K) Than black.

There is no current black.......

I think it's because the white bezel devices look better in ads. The white stands out more, offering that 'pop" that helps sell products.

In real world use, I would NEVER buy a device that had a white bezel. It is distracting. It diverts my eyes away from the content on the screen. I think that one of the reasons that people want a smaller bezel - particularly for the iPhone 6 - is for the reason i just stated - nothing should distract the user's experience away from what's on the screen.

As far as the back of the device is concerned, I always prefer black. Particularly black aluminum or a matte black finish. Shiny black plastic is a no-no in my book.

The white iPhones always look better for the most part. The only time that changed was with the black slate iPhone 5. That thing was sexy. Now they've gone to space grey for "black" and it's ugly compared to the white/gold and white/silver.

You are easily distracted then:p what other world use is there, is their another planet with humans on it I don't know about:confused:

After 5 years of black iPads/iPhones, just got a silver 5S and mini retina, very refreshing. My world is now white:eek:

Because iOS 7 looks better on a white iPhone?

Dan Frommer of Splat-F reports that Apple used to prefer its black iPhones so much that it forbade developers from showing off their apps on white iPhones.

So why the change?

Frommer has a theory. He thinks maybe iOS 7 looks better on a white gadget.

Here's another theory: Every ad you see for a Samsung Galaxy S3 or S4 features a white phone, and those things are selling like hotcakes.

Apple's branding of products have always involved the colour white. Take, for exmaple, the headphones for the iPhone/iPod: they are white, while most manufacturers choose for the colour black.

In a world where most consumer electronics are black, white is something that draws more attention.

Generally, though, black iPhones sell better.

Oh, here we go again!

I was staying out of this thread until we insisted on calling Space Gray black – again.

Allright. I'm going to play it your way. If your argument is good enough to call Space Gray black, then I can call my Black/Slate iPhone 5 Space Gray.

Thanks! Now everyone will just assume I have a 5s and not a 5!

You're missing the logic.

When Apple was selling the iPhone 5, they marketed the colors as:

Black and Slate
White and Silver

Naturally, they came to be known as "black" and "white" iPhones, respectively.

They've since changed the marketing to:

Space Gray
Silver
Gold

If they didn't change their marketing, they would have been:

Black and Space Gray
White and Silver
White and Gold

So Space Gray is still a black iPhone (primarily due to the black face) and Silver and Gold are still white iPhones (primarily due to the white face).

No need to make this complicated.

I'm not making it complicated. People just seem to not want to include the shell when they talk about the color.

You say that it's black because the face of the Space Gray 5s is black. But what about the sides? The sides are gray. I'll give you that the windows in the back are black, but the metal portions are gray.

You say Apple changed the marketing. Why? If it's black because it's Black/Space Gray why change the marketing. Just keep calling it Black/Space Gray. Perhaps because Apple thinks it's gray and not black. Apple calls it Space Gray and yet people insist on calling it something Apple is NOT calling it (i.e., black)!

We continue to see this fundamentally differently I guess.

But ALL the 5c's are black plus a colour, none (incl. White) have a white face plate?!?

My guess is they shortened it because it sounds better and differentiating "White and Silver" and "White and Gold" is overly complicated for the average customers and redundant for marketing purposes.

Just compare (from marketing perspective):

Space Gray
Silver
Gold

to

Black and Space Gray
White and Silver
White and Gold

It's easy to see that the face color is no longer the defining factor between the three models so they've dropped it. Additionally, "Black and Space Gray" sounds overly long and wordy (compared to "Black and Slate") even though it's technically correct. You can't argue otherwise because we know that "Silver" is the same color as "White and Silver."

We know how Apple thinks and they like to simplify things as much as possible.

It's just marketing. I'm sure Apple did some study and found that the color white encourages people to spend more money. Plus, in photos white makes iOS 7 look better.

The white takes some of the ugly out of iOS 7.

The "white" 3G and 3GS had black face too but nobody was anal retentive enough to argue they were not white iPhones. People will just casually call it whatever sticks out the most, whether it's the white shell of "white" 3G/3GS, the gold of "white and gold" 5s, the various colored shells of the 5c, etc.
