That's right, users should not give Apple any special treatments. If Siri is not finish, they should flat out reject it and go to the better alternatives. Just don't ask me what that alterative(s) is/are.

So I'm not allowed to post about the issues that I have? I'm only allowed to post good things that you want to hear? Why's that? It's not like what I've posted is unreasonable. The things I have posted are legitimate and have merit. If you don't like it, nobody is forcing you to read it nor respond to it.

Of course you can post. And of course I can post that having just joined this site, with a username that is designed to provoke, with a totally unjustified claim (that Apple "gets a free pass", claiming that somehow Siri is not of good quality and nobody dares saying it), it looks very much that you are just trying to troll.

As you get to know the Apple community better, you'll notice Apple usually gets a pass on anything that doesn't "Just Work".

Hypocrisy is alive and well in this arena :)

You'll get used to it, then if you have a good sense of humor you'll find it rather humorous. There's lots of fun reading how the various users justify and rationalize Apple screw ups. They're quite creative in their defense of the almighty Apple.

Quite contrary to what I find. There is of course the whole area of Android fanboys posting all kinds of nonsense and marking each other up that need to be told off; but any genuine problems with Apple products the actual users, which are still the majority here, will be complaining loud enough.

Also, I believe the reason Apple labelled Siri as being "BETA" - so that Apple lets the general public know that the product is indeed... BETA, and beta does in tale having bugs, flaws, issues... but for the most part, workable.

Plus.. if Apple released it labelled as a 'stable version' and had lots of bugs/flaws... then it would just give more wind to those who like to b*tch.

Do the TV commercials state that it is Beta?

The TV commercials show it has Siri, why does the commercial have to say beta? The commercial doesn't say that the say the speed of the processor it just says it has an A5 dual core.

I just watched a commercial on youtube and it didn't even mention the name siri....just showed it in use and say "say hello to the most amazing iphone yet"

Fairly obvious in the context of this thread. I'll let you try and figure it out.

I've read the whole thread, and posted a few times. Not sure what you are getting at, but I just stated a fact. Regardless of whether you like or dislike the siri "beta" tag.

You didn't even watch that video, did you?

I personally didn't watch the video, but my experience over the last month with my iphone 4s has indicated that Siri does not "just work". I've posted about this in another thread, but things as simple as asking for the phone number for Apple technical support yield garbage. If there was one single thing that I would have imagined it would get correct, it would be that. Many other queries for phone numbers or local businesses have also yielded garbage. The dictation aspects are equally horrible; simple strings such as "hey man, you guys coming tonight?" take at least 2-3 corrections to get right, and that's if I'm not picky about punctuation.

On the other hand, there are a few things about Siri that I really do love. Reminders, setting timers, and setting calendar appointments are great, so long as you don't have them linked to a location (which I've never been able to get to work). "Remind me to call my wife when I leave work" simply never triggers, despite the fact that I entered the address to my work from the GPS 'my location' from my car, instead of simply using an address. How can I get more accurate than that?

Frankly, I think the beauty of Siri is that it does a LOT, but I don't think it does that much particularly well. Actually, for web, phone number, and business searches, I find Google's search app to be far superior.

But that's just my 2c.

I agree with you to some extent. However, Apple doesn't just throw around the term beta. When they say it's beta, it's really beta. If you treat Google's betas the same you wouldn't be able to comment on anything Google does negatively. Everything is beta.

Probably why they called this phone the 4S instead of the fabled iPhone 5 that is indefinitely on hold.....

Why is it when anyone has an issue with the way Siri works, the response they receive is "it's a Beta"? Why does Apple get a pass for releasing Beta software and then touting it as their main selling point? If this happened on another platform like Android, the people here would have skewered them, saying that they just threw something out there, or that once again an incomplete product was rushed out, or that it "lacks polish". While is Apple allowed to release products that aren't finished (even though they use it as a major selling point)? Why does apple get a free pass here?

Why the free pass? Because they were open and upfront about it all and while it is beta, it works damn good and is fairly polished. Being that transparent and the fact that Apple is already a trusted brand, earns them the respect in the marketplace to make such a move. Are the various Android brands as trusted in the marketplace enough to do that? According to you no.

I also think it's a bit premature to say what would happen if others did the same thing without provide any back up to that having happened.
