If Vista is so wonderful, why do all faculty/staff members who get new systems with Vista on them bring them into us so we can put XP on it?

Because they are opposed to change or are too stubborn to change, plus they have heard all the "press" regarding how bad vista is.

In our company with over 3,000 employees, we have not migrated xp machines to vista, but the new machines that are purchased to phase out older ones, come with Vista business and are not downgraded to XP, we just didn't want the expense to upgrade everyone to vista. We generally have few complaints, and the ones that exist, are people who just don't know how to do certain things under vista. I would agree that vista uses more resources, so unless you have 2GB of ram, you are climbing up the wrong tree, but with 2GB of ram, there's little to complaint from my point of view.

Yeah, people are opposed to change. And since it is not my job to convince them Vista is good (I will not personally vouch for that OS to anyone because the minute something goes wrong, I become the free tech support), I gladly downgrade them to XP.

Also, we had a few issues where Vista was constantly giving us a BSOD with very specific, expensive software. Also we have quite a few cases where Service Pack 1 refuses to install no matter what fixes are attempted.

You can very easily, but they also could have made it more like Win7 and less intrusive. Sadly, Vista has a lot more issues with it than just UAC. Reason why Microsoft had to rewrite the whole code for the O/S to make it run faster under a different Kernel.

:confused::confused::confused:

Everything I've read says that 7 runs using Vista's kernel. Thats why its considered by many what vista was supposed to be.

They completely redid it. Go search on google and you will find the details on it. It is based on the same platform but it was redone.

When I think "completely redone", I imagine going from a Honda Civic to a BMW. Completely different, looks different in every sense, etc. Windows 7 looks a lot like Windows Vista, with a new skin and some under the hood improvements. Thats like taking a Honda Civic, painting it a different color, and throwing a huge spoiler on the back.
