Black and gold is a gaudy combination from an era of gaudy fashion and decorating.

However that's going to be subjective and certain people will still like it.

Don't expect Apple to build an iPhone with that color combination though. It's still overall considered bad taste (once again subjective).

Agreed it's awful. Anybody with any sense of taste would never mix black and gold. Blech.

Totally agree with this. The white and gold (well champagne) is borderline perfect and borderline gaudy and over done as heck. I like the combo but too many phones like it are out there....at this point I'd probably go with the black and graphite iPhone 5S as the black iPhone is almost rare now! I liked when the iPhone was Black but you'd see a few white ones regularly. I'd hate to think one day we won't have a black iPhone :O

This black gold 5s is constructed from real apple parts, so it gives a good feel of what it would actually look like

This one is better than the one in the OP, but it's still kind of jarring.

The problem is that the gold on the 5S is very light and subtle, so it naturally "flows into" the white glass pieces. Ditto the silver one.

You really can't do that with the black glass pieces, which transition better into grey or silver metal pieces.

My college colors (Purdue) are black and gold. I would def take a "Purdue" version if it was offered.

Boiler Up!

Those were my high school colours. There is no way I'd see that and not think about what a joy and delight it was to be tortured in high school...

Maybe if it were mostly gold, with a little bit of black?

Nah, I'm getting nauseous thinking of that one too.

An all red (RED) one doesn't actually sound very appealing either, although I do have a few (RED) iPods and a 'Smart Cover'...

But seeing it might be the thing. I remember thinking the 5s in gold would blow, and it actually looks rather good.

But given the dated look of the rounded sides of the mockups, maybe a throw back black and gold scheme would work. Then maybe black and chrome would look good. Or that awful green that was popular in the 70's. Then a toupee looking case. Maybe a tank top, or fuzzy knit legging for it, or something that looks like those furry big foot looking boots? :D

No I've got it: Make the black look like granite... No wait...

But seriously, it could look good. I saw a blue 5c and liked it...

OHHHH! Make it look like an Android phone. People will wonder what model you have because you are actually using it!

I don't think Apple will ever combine these two colors. But you never know. Maybe they'll surprise us in the future :p

I don't really life black glass on my devices.
And I'm not too fond of the gold. (Looks nice, but I'd have a hard time convincing myself to purchase it)

Seems interesting. Not for me. (At least for now)
