this has happened to me at least 5 times now. Not just through text messages, but by opening and/or closing apps. probably a bug. hope apple gets to work and fixes this. they've been slacking lately!

Just happened again on 6.0.1 this time. I swear every time it's sliding up to take a pic while I get messages or something..

I had a thread about this, its basically just something causing sringboard to crash, and iOS reloading it, its just a bug, it'lll prob get sorted out, its software not hardware...STOP thinking its a hardware issue

Good point.

I think 6.0.1 does it less than 6.0 but still does.. Who knows if 6.1 will catch it

they will do it anyway, that is the first thing they do basically. Restore as new and send you home.

Not always. Just sound like you know what you're talking about as best as possible and insist you tried restoring with and without a backup.

ugh it's done it like 3 times in the past few days now.

if it was crashing when getting a message i'd buy into it being a bug.

but it's happened 100% of the time doing slide up to take a photo.

sometimes when texts are coming in at the same time, other times not.

Do you guys think I should get my phone swapped?

I too have been having this problem ever since I've had my iPhone 5, and I have it since release day. Every once in a while when I "wake" it to see if I have any notifications, upon trying to go into say Messages.app to reply to a text, it'll freeze and then quickly show the Apple logo and then go back to the lock screen and continue on as if nothing ever happened.

It happened frequently in iOS 6.0, and now happens maybe twice a month with iOS 6.0.1. Very odd behavior.

so nobody has had crashing after taking pictures?

i think im gonna get mine swapped, sounds like we have different issues but same result (rebooting)

Hello everyone,
Mine does both. It crashes and reboots itself like nothing happened when messaging, browsing the web, taking pictures, ...
I hope it gets fixed soon.
Kind regards,
Bram.

Are you jailbroken? You could try restoring and see if that'll fix your crashes

then go get it exchanged. Back up and make an appointment. Shall I hold your hand?

Again. Just got this one. And no thank you :)

When you restore, did you restore from backup? Try setting it up as new and starting from scratch. It seems there's something in your backup that's causing these crashes. Maybe a corrupt backup

If a restore and setting it up as new still causes the random reboots to happen, then it is NOT a software problem. it is a HARDWARE problem and you would need to get that exchanged.

If it was a software problem, there would be a LOT more people complaining about the issue when iOS 6.x came out

Since 6.1, I haven't experienced this for this particular isolated 'respring' instance:
camera slide up, take pic, hit home button

My iPhone 5 is liberated, I mean jailbroken, and even with that in mind and 30+ tweaks (with no noticeable decrease in performance or battery life, I don't theme or use BiteSMS) I still don't have that isolated incident.

Funny because back when I was on 6.0.1, the senior level AppleCare advisor said it was definitely a faulty camera and a hardware issue that he had heard of happening on previous models as well.

The replacement did the same thing, but the screen was better (the best I've seen) than the previous and the previous was the best (no vertical interlacing, the tint was a little weird though) before the slew of ones I went before.

So glad to be done with the swap game, have a great device, and be having a great time with tweaks.

I removed my jailbreak yesterday because I was having this issue. I decided I was going to calibrate my battery since it had been a few months and the crash happened somewhere around the 20% mark. This wasn't the first instance but the fact that I had lost my usage stats irked me enough.

After the restore and using it without the jailbreak I got down to that 20% mark and had the same thing happen. Very frustrating. What's worse is I wasn't actually doing anything with it. Sitting there watching tv and out if the corner of my eye I saw the Apple logo pop up.

I set it up as new, when I restored my iPhone. So I guess, that I better call apple care to get a replacement.
Thanks.

It's not random.... Not for your phone anyway. You see, your phone is the reset switch for the cosmic destruction system. It has to reset every now and then or..... booooom!!!

I know it's a pain in the butt, but the universe needs you..... we need you!

My theory is that as was said before, it only happens when multiple apps are open on multitasking, and you're performing a task like opening an app, closing one, etc. I believe the RAM on the phone (what the device used to remember all of the background data, and to keep the system running etc), has reached maximum and had rebooted because the system didn't have enough RAM space to cope, so it rebooted because the system crashed.
