Because the Apple Watch is a toy. It's just that simple.

I've been collecting and wearing watches for many years and this is the first time someone has mentioned watches are toys.

So, they are toys and that's why they scratch........thanks for letting me know

Every time I see scratch/ding posts I wonder if people have wedding rings.

My 18kt polished white gold ring has been on for 8 years. At this point, the style of it is matte scratches, where it is just ALL scratches.

as a longtime watch wearer & collector, I disagree. I'm also pretty sure the Swiss said the same of quartz watches once upon a time.

Agreed, they thought Quartz was the wave of the future (thankfully they were somewhat wrong). Some swiss watchmakers are slowly adapting, such as Mont Blanc and Tag Heuer.... we will likely see more in the future.

Watches are indeed toys, baubles, artefacts of time obsessed folks, many of whom cannot seem to get anywhere on time.

I was given a watch as a kid by contrite parents after I had been scolded for getting home late for dinner….. How could I know what time it was down the back of the farm unless I had a watch, they figured. Didn't really work as intended. I only ever wore it when I was dressed up to go out. The bell they later installed could be heard half a mile away down the valley.

I haven't worn a watch most of my adult life. I seldom carry a timepiece of any kind, not even a mobile phone, yet I'm known for usually being on time.

I think you're in the minority with that concept. Its great that you're always on time. I prefer knowing what time it is, and I actually am almost always on time for appointments and dates.

I have little choice in the business world but not only know what time it is but being able to track time all through the workday.

My "contrite parents" did me a favor and made sure that doing what I needed to to do and doing it on time was a priority in life. The habit has paid off well for me and I have no complaints about time except there is not enough of it some days.

LOL, every watch or piece of jewelery I have ever owned has gotten scuff and scratches, its called living life, you're going to brush up or bump against things. I say stop worrying about scratches, its an exposed piece of tech on your body, did you expect it to stay pristine it's entire life? If you did then hinder your expectations next time!

Aren't most things "toys", and did you even try the watch, or just making a blanket statement? If you tried it and wasn't for you, cool! But if you're saying it without trying, then your opinion is worth nill. I personally really enjoy my "toy" watch, and all the other "toys" I own.

I've had the Sport, Space Black, and regular SS and I wound up keeping the regular SS. I liked the look of the Sport but I had issues with scratches, mainly the screen. I wear it to work and I really didn't expect the glass to hold up but it was worth a shot. I have had no issues whatsoever with the SS other than the already mentioned hair line scratches from normal use. The sapphire screen is what makes the SS more durable for my particular use.

I have the 38mm white aluminum. I am not hard on it at all. I just got it on Friday. Should I return it?

NO! If you bought the watch, and through its use, it got scratched and dinged up, what makes you think Apple will just take it back and give you a free refund? They won't, any more that you can return an iPhone, iPad or iPod with a smashed screen. Wow.

I have a 42mm SS watch that I've had since early June. I wear it all day, every day, and it still looks brand new. No scratches, no marks, nothing. Just take care of your stuff, and if you scratch it or scuff it, deal with it.

I have to wonder if the people who have zero scratches on their watch live in the same world as me!:) My SS has lots of scratches. I don't care. I've always worn watches and they've always been scratched.

Electronic equipment will get marked from wear and tear usage.

Deal with it. if the functionality is not impacted (i.e., it still works), suck it up and worry less about minor imperfections and worry more about things in life that actually matter.
