Got to watch out for the ETOH in that. **** will make you do crazy stuff. #

After this thread, I think you need something stronger than water.

Have a few shots of Jager and call it a day.

That's the best advice so far... :)

And HappyDude - educate yourself, but don't become paranoid. The stress of worrying over little things is far more harmful than most of the things you're supposed to be worried about.

That's the exception rather than the rule. Most bottle water comes from a municipal source. That's right, you're drinking purified city water, not that fancy-smancy spring water. Read the label to see where your bottled water comes from.

But I assume the chlorine has been removed?

Think it varies depending on the brand. There will be less than in water from the tap as theres far less risk for contamination.

They normally use reverse osmosis to filter the water so its pure h2o after that process. It just depends what they add in afterwards. Theres always trace elements added back in to varying degrees for flavour.

According to this page @ banthebottle.net "the FDA allows up to 250.0 milligrams per liter of chloride in bottled water". According to this page from the EPA "Mineral water is exempt from allowable level. The exemptions are aesthetically based allowable levels and do not relate to a health concern".

Below, a list of contaminants permitted in bottled water (from: this page)

Thanks for the info! They say that water with good minerals in it is better for you than distilled water. However the less contaminants the better.

Some say drinking distilled water (regularly) is something humans should avoid. See the article What Are the Dangers of Drinking Distilled Water?, for example.

Some of the "contaminants" found in water can be "good" for humans, such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, etc. Unfortunately, distilling water removes the bad stuff as well as the good stuff. Some even claim that distilled water combines with carbon dioxide to make it more acid. Supposedly, this causes humans to lose even more of their body's vital mineral when they urinate. See Keeping Your Heart in Rhythm, for example.

So who knows...? Most of the time, I drink water from a local spring. My dog even prefers it over the local tap water. ;) When I buy bottled water, I try to remember to read the label. I probably should buy a filtered water pitcher, which supposedly doesn't remove the good stuff but does catch most of the bad stuff.

Why? The human body evolved to cope with water that was far from distilled. Yes, it's better not drink stuff with all the bad organisms in it. But all those minerals are easily dealt with by the body… And in some cases requires those ingredients. What you see as a contaminant … I see as an ingredient.

I was referring to bad contaminents, things that are not good for consumption.

I don't get the reference….

The cigar-smoking man in the pic is General Ripper, a character in the film Dr. Strangelove, Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb (1964), who believes that flouridation of drinking water is a communist conspiracy.

Conversation between Captain Mandrake and General Ripper follows:

Ripper: Mandrake?
Mandrake: Yes, Jack?
Ripper: Have you ever seen a Commie drink a glass of water?
Mandrake: Well, I can't say I have, Jack.
Ripper: Vodka, that's what they drink, isn't it? Never water?
Mandrake: Well, I-I believe that's what they drink, Jack, yes.
Ripper: On no account will a Commie ever drink water, and not without good reason.
Mandrake: Oh, eh, yes. I, uhm, can't quite see what you're getting at, Jack.
Ripper: Water, that's what I'm getting at, water. Mandrake, water is the source of all life. Seven-tenths of this Earth's surface is water. Why, do you realize that 70 percent of you is water?
Mandrake: Good Lord!
Ripper: And as human beings, you and I need fresh, pure water to replenish our precious bodily fluids.
Mandrake: Yes. (he begins to chuckle nervously)
Ripper: Are you beginning to understand?
Mandrake: Yes. (more laughter)
Ripper: Mandrake. Mandrake, have you never wondered why I drink only distilled water, or rainwater, and only pure-grain alcohol?
Mandrake: Well, it did occur to me, Jack, yes.
Ripper: Have you ever heard of a thing called fluoridation. Fluoridation of water?
Mandrake: Uh? Yes, I-I have heard of that, Jack, yes. Yes.
Ripper: Well, do you know what it is?
Mandrake: No, no I don't know what it is, no.
Ripper: Do you realize that fluoridation is the most monstrously conceived and dangerous Communist plot we have ever had to face?

ahhh…. the light bulb goes on… thank you…..

There's ingredients to everything. It's impossible to escape it. If you live near a mountain, you could possibly fill up at natural springs. I lived in Pennsylvania for a few years, and we would fill it a dozen 5 gallon jugs from the natural spring and drink that. It's free, and comes from inside a mountain. Pretty cool :)
