I shut my Mac down and disconnect the power every night before I go to bed.

Don't know if that is right or wrong, but it saves electricity and noise pollution in my house.

I have been doing this for 3 years now and have not had any trouble.

It is the right way to do it. Unfortunately I guess most of us can't do without the instant gratification factor of tweaking the mouse and having it be usable a few seconds later.

well, i only have a mac laptop so i guess i dont waste too much energy while sleeping it, it can last days in that status with only battery power
i only restart it when its behaving weirdly

I was compiling xfce, and my hard disk space went from 4gb to zero. I got numerous errors that my virtual memory is low and then that I don't have any and need to restart. I restarted and my hard disk space went back up to 4gb. Since then I have been restarting regularly... I noticed that every time I restart everything seems to run faster
