On a Mac my macrumors doesn't take up the whole screen. I cant see how to change this in the settings so I can only assume its meant to be this way. Why is that? Seems like a lot of wasted space.

If you scroll to the bottom of the page, you can select between Fixed, Fluid, and Fluid HD widths. Fluid dynamically resizes to a maximum that's a bit wider than the standard Fixed, while Fluid HD will fill the entire width of your browser window no matter how big you make it.

I never realized this was a problem until you showed me the solution! Thanks!

The featured carousel now properly supports Fluid HD. So if you want the page to be super wide, it can:

Note, since the redesign there are only Fluid and Fluid HD

Fluid - has a reasonable max width.
Fluid HD - has no max width
