but I really think for many the Kindle is STILL overpriced.

are you kidding me? The kindle is very cheap compared with other ebook readers and just look at how good a reviews it gets. I'm personally enjoying my kindle and it is the best ebook reader apart from Sony's PRS-600 (or so I believe).

The Kindle's a fine piece of technology at its price point. And the keyboard is good for email. Not great, but good. Given that the $189 model has 3G access from anywhere free for the life of the unit (and you can get news and other updates for free) it's not a bad price.

I had my 1st good look at one recently and did feel it was very cheaply make for a device that cost around $180

It felt very plastic. And I have no problem with plastic, unlike many here, Plastic can be done very nice, but the Kindle I played with just felt very cheap, the buttons either side felt very poorly designed/made also.

I had expected it to feel a bit better.

Yes, I can see some might like a keyboard option, but it's a shame it's not hidden, or I guess ideally a touch screen overlay.
As I say, to me, it's supposed to replace a book and it should look pretty much all screen.
I would buy one for an elderly relative, but I know they would freak out when they saw the keyboard.

My mother-in-law is nearing 80 and we picked up a Kindle for her a couple of years ago. She loves it. When her eyes get tired she uses the read aloud function. It's a great device for the tech-averse. Amazon did a great job with it. And you rarely need the keyboard other than for searching for books in the Kindle store.

I don't think anyone is selling online, other than Apple. To order the iPad 2 from anyone (B&H, MacConnection, etc.) you have to call them or visit their store. Amazon doesn't take phone orders AFAIK.

still nothing....
