Sadly, Apple Care has no clue. They dont even know if its a compatibility issue. Looks like itll be returned. Sadly.
Agreed, AppleCare folks today now seem mostly trained to be nice, but without actually understanding the products in any real sense. Every single tech support issue I have had in the last few months has required going through multiple layers of super-nice unhelpful bimbos (I use that term gender-nonspecific) before finally getting to a person who has a glimmer of real understanding of the issue. This across multiple Apple products.

E.g. with a MBP issue multiple bimbos tried to fault the very latest version of Big Sur as not being a "current" OS for my 2016 MBP to operate properly. An absurd premise, but they all were just following the same thought-free decision tree of ways to push the complainant.

So I suggest try again, and try to force them to move you up the support chain until someone sounding competent actually tells you that M2 MBAs are design engineered not to give more than 30 fps.

My interactions have been outstanding, granted only twice in the past 6 months but both times, immediate help with people who knew what they were talking about.

Another time, I had pre-ordered a new monitor and went to pick it up. I had forgotten about that my company has a plan to get a discount. He asked if my company did, I recalled and we did a return, re-purchase and I saved $87 on the purchase. They didn't have to do that.

Despite my multiple recent experiences I rank AppleCare as good, not bad. But I do recommend that when things like
"Apple Care has no clue. They dont even know if its a compatibility issue." happen, that folks push hard to get farther up the chain of AppleCare competence levels. Especially with brand-new products.
