This is probably exactly why apple went from the old locking dock cables with the buttons on the side to the current cables that you just pull out! Almost as a magsafe alternative for the time being!

I think Apple would rather work on wireless charging (a la Witricity) and wireless syncing instead. You can't trip over no wire at all.

Yeah, but then people will start worrying about kicking the device and want it to float or be integrated into the body. =p

I hate the connector for the ipad. The way the edge of the ipad is bevelled makes it not a quick and easy connection.

Could this be the "new way of charging ios devices" an article claimed apple stated some time ago?

Exactly. Easy removal is great, but being able to dangle the magsafe near a Macbook and have it snap into place is great also.

I don't think it needs a mag-safe cable. They make the 30-pin cable shorter for a reason. If it is charging by a wall outlet, you will leave it by the wall, no tripping. If it is connected to your mac, it is right next to the mac, no tripping. The mag-safe cable is meant to go as far in the center of a nice sized room, so very high chance of tripping. Plus, the iPad has amazing battery life, so just charge it when you go to sleep.
