Why don't Apple allow us to use what ever IOS we want?

I have an A9 iPhone that became noticeably slower after upgrading direct from 14.8.1 to 15.8.something. It’s not “indexing” as people always claimed as the slowness persists and battery health was good at 90%.

Same thing with an A14 iPhone going from 14.8.1 to 17.7. The phone used to be butter smooth even on Low Power Mode, but on 17 it lags in Low Power Mode. I’m also noticing more stutters on iPadOS 17 compared to 14 on a M1 iPad Pro.

Yeah for sure the 6s didn’t have a lot of headroom although the phone was awesome compared to the iPhone 6. My son has an iPhone 12 and while I didn’t ask him specifically he’s seemingly running iOS 26 without issue. IPAds using those chips probably have different characteristics.

The only release that has gotten faster that I remember was iOS 12. 11 was easily the worst version I've used in terms of stability and performance

Yeah, pretty much every single iOS device ended their support run with a poor experience. Perhaps the best-performing devices are the iPhone 8 on iOS 16 and the Xʀ on iOS 18, but battery life is poor, and it’s not like they run great. They’re decent.

There is some lag on the iPhone 11 (A13) on iOS 18 that wasn’t there on iOS 14 and 15.

There is NO iPhone that runs what I would call “well” on a final iOS version.

It’s just varying degrees of poor, either because of battery life, performance, or both, obviously comparing them to original iOS versions.

Which is why it is malicious, ludicrous, and pathetic that Apple does not allow us to downgrade. We have garbage devices due to garbage software just because Apple won’t allow downgrading.

Luckily out of 12 iOS devices I have two on their final iOS version (both garbage)

Of the rest, one is very poor (an iPhone 6s on iOS 13, forced by Apple malware from iOS 9), one is mediocre (a 9.7-inch iPad Pro on iOS 12, forced by Apple malware from iOS 9), and the rest are either on perfect, original versions or on very good iOS versions, slightly updated.

I think the iPad 2 was usable for a longer time than 3. iPad 4 came like just half a year later. I was shocked as I had patiently been waiting for a mature iPad and realized Apple had tricked me. It took about a decade until I got another Apple product.

I wanted to have an iPad Mini for a long time, but it looked like 5 would be the last. Then 6 appeared and I was extremely excited. But when it was shown to have "jelly scroll" I noped the hell out and returned mine. I was not going to take any chances with Apple again. I bought an iPad Pro instead just to be safe.

Thanks for listening to my venting. It was borderline traumatic.

My iPad 7th gen runs iOS 18 fantastically. With great performance and battery life.

I doubt that. The 7th-gen has an A10. The iPhone 7’s processor. iOS 15 destroyed battery life on that iPhone, let alone iPadOS 18.

You always claim every update has great battery life and you never produce screenshots. So you’re bluffing. It’s probably garbage like always.

It’s not exactly the same chip as the m series aren’t exactly the same chips as their predecessor . Ignorance is bliss at times. I suppose.

I doubt your claims also. So we’re even. Take it or leave it.
