Mac OS X loves RAM
I think one of the key items we seem to be overlooking in this original post is that GanleyBurger is trying out MACs at Apple Stores. It seems to me that when I try MACs out in a store, I get poorer performance than I get from my iMac at home. Why? I would propose it is because they have minimal amounts of RAM, stay on all the time, and are using the hard drive constantly for a significant number of Virtual Memory swaps(which obviously slows down everything) Mac OS X loves RAM-when there is not enough of it-you get many beachballs.
