It's just as long and still 2 pieces, much like every droid charger I've ever owned

Do you still have to carry around the adapter AND a cable, or is that an adapter and cable all in one piece like any normal charging system is besides Apple's?

If it's the former, then problem solved.

I personally don't carry around the adapters. They stay in fixed locations, like at home and at work, for the extremely rare times I can't just plug the charging cable into a computer.

The link I posted is to USB extension cables that cost a dollar and thirty cents (for six-footers). So yes, this would be "three pieces", as you mentioned earlier. However again I personally don't tote all this crap around -- just the USB cable because USB ports are prolific. Hell even newer houses have them in the wall.

I use the charger adapter and USB cables (and extensions, if need be) in places no where near a USB port of any kind -- like on a nightstand.

I don't understand what the downside is to having it be two pieces? If it was a single piece unit, you'd have to carry around another USB cable if you want to connect it to your computer. Sure the cable may be short but having it as two pieces is way more convenient.

It's understandable to want a longer cable, but complaining about it being "2 pieces" is just bizarre. Then you would have to carry around a separate cable to connect the phone to a computer.

Why don't they give you a real screen protector???

The two crappy films already on the phone don't even fit properly.

They put on these flaps that overhangs the phone, so I had to cut them off.

Plus the screen doesn't respond too kindly with them on.

I wish Apple would give us real protectors.

I actually had to move some furniture around due to the length of the cord.

The one from my BlackBerry 9780 was actually longer.

I hope you're not being serious.

Those plastic films on the phone are not screen protectors. They just put them on to protect the glass before it gets to the customers' hands. You're supposed to take them off.

I hate the short cable as well, bu Im not understanding how the charger is fake.

Wow came back from dinner and this thread sure caught on fire during the past hour. The principle behind the original thread was simple. Give us a longer cord as it's pathetic to have a 12" reach.

Annoying Cost Cutting

The short cords supplied with so many electronic devices today is annoying. Two or three feet less wire times millions of units saves lots of money for the manufacturer.... but increases frustration for users and the cost burden is shifted to you to buy a longer cable after-market. Of recent purchases only my Amazon Kindle had a decent length cord.

usb extension on amazon you can get these days for like what? 99cents?

next time you buy something off the net, im sure amazon will sell it too, just buy it from amazon, and throw a usb extension in the cart with your purchase

I can see it with a longer cord....and I can also see myself catching that cord on my foot and sending my devices flying....

I'm confused...if you plug the USB into the adaptor..then it's one whole charging assembly...and as others have stated...they sell extensions...maybe I just need to drop my IQ a ways down to understand the point of this thread...o_0

Everyone has a different computer setup, so people need different cable lengths. But it's not Apple's responsibility to provide one that will be perfect for everyone. What do you do if the cord on your coffee maker isn't long enough to reach the outlet? You move stuff or you get an extension. Same thing here.

As for the two-piece issue, it makes sense. You don't need a wall plug with a cable attached. You'd have to wind it whenever you wanted to take it somewhere, which stresses where the cord meets the plug. I think it's much nicer to have the pieces come apart.
