Umm. Let's over think this one. Why not just use a standard household extension cord? That's how I have one of my chargers. I can add as many as I want for about a $1 a piece. Not that hard.

I don't want a longer charger. It would just take up more room when I travel.

If you don't like the length of it, then buy an extender. Problem solved.

Everyone has a different computer setup, so people need different cable lengths. But it's not Apple's responsibility to provide one that will be perfect for everyone. What do you do if the cord on your coffee maker isn't long enough to reach the outlet? You move stuff or you get an extension. Same thing here.

As for the two-piece issue, it makes sense. You don't need a wall plug with a cable attached. You'd have to wind it whenever you wanted to take it somewhere, which stresses where the cord meets the plug. I think it's much nicer to have the pieces come apart.

My coffee maker is an awesome one...but the cord is so short lol...so, instead of going to coffeemMakerrumors, I just pull it out everytime I use it..

I bought an iPad charger. Could have solved the problem for a lot less money, but I love the quality of Apple cables so I went with it.

I'd wager that the overwhelming majority of people charge their phones on a nightstand, for which the cable is more than sufficient.

If you have a special need for a longer cable, a USB extension cable is $5 online.

It's not long enough for my nighstand. I plug it in on the power strip on the floor and it doesn't reach the top of my night stand haha. I have a 6 foot cable though that works fine. The apple cables are kind of short and useless imo, I only use them to sync when I'm on my laptop or something.

Don't these 6ft long cable, or extensions (non-active based) not charge the iPhone/iPad correctly? I've tried extensions before and it always charges my phone EXTREMELY slow, there are threads on here about it not carrying the full charge over the length of the cable due to the A required by the iPhone/iPad.

The op does not want to, he wants one long cable that attaches directly to the adapter.
My suggestion for him: Buy a long/extended 3rd party cable and glue/tape it to the adapter. Now it's one piece, not two. Problem solved.

its EU regs on phone chargers being universal and also saving materials - if teh cable is just 1 cm shorteron 4 million units so far sold that's 400km or 250 miles of cable saved!!!

Your calculation is slightly out, it would be 40km or 25 miles. Still a lot.

Having a short cable fits everyone's needs better than having a long cable. With the short cable, people who want a long cable can just add an extension. If they had a long cable, people who want a short cable are stuck with a long cable.

Just made the switch to a 4S from Droid 2.

My Motorola charger was the same style (USB), however the cord was even shorter.

Why doesn´t your house have this?

WHERE DO YOU GET THOSE? ^^^^

Sunkus: I was not agreeing with the oP, i am just saying thats not what he wants.

I actually had to move some furniture around due to the length of the cord.

The one from my BlackBerry 9780 was actually longer.

Why would you move furniture???? just get an extension cord

I like the Iphone charger, no problem with that.

But, like some friends, it could be "a bit" longer. sometimes I can not talk while it is on charge, because of the distance.

So I give two options to Apple:

1. Make the cable longer (8-10 cm is enough)
2. Increase the battery life of the phones, then you can even decrease the cable length :p

I wasn't under the impression you were agreeing with him. Just couldn't find the quote at the time where he was stating this. (Too lazy to look for it)
