Low res = less data to push over the net which = smooth/non laggy FaceTime. End of discussion. I thought this was rather obvious, but clearly not.

It's already been shown somewhere. The iPhone 4 camera part is thicker then the entire ipad2. They would have had to make the entire device thicker. Guess they thought people would rather have thin.

Hahahahahaha.

Hahahahahahaha.

Oh jeez. That was hilarious.

Hahahahahaha.

iPad has face time over wifi. What does that have to do with data being pushed over the net???

iPhone 4 has much better cameras and it's using face time over wifi as well. And the face time quality absolutely destroys the ipads face time quality.

Your logic makes absolutely no sense.

Most will disagree but I am glad they use low res cams in the iPad 2. The purpose is for video chatting. It would look ridiculous if the iPad had great cameras and people were out shooting video are taking stills using the iPad. I think this is what Apple was trying to prevent.

Don't you guys get it? Apple was trying to save us from ourselves.

I can't wait til they upgrade the camera in the future models... so I can laugh at all the geeks on here that will actually use their iPads to take pictures!!

Facetime HD, now that is a different story. I would love that.

The reason its not obvious is because its not true. Video quality can be controlled through software and with 9x graphics and dual core a5's then it could easily handle a larger sensor that would be scaled back if necessary (just like everyone does on modern video capable devices). Apple may have a reason for giving us an outdated camera but it's definitely not because of bandwidth limitations on a device that only does Facetime over Wi-Fi.

Because of a feature most people won't use, they forgo so many other applications where a decent camera could be used.

Yeah, Apple is trying to save us from being awkward looking. Why oh why did they add a headphone jack then? Do they want to live up to the jokes that say the iPad is nothing more than a bigass iPod touch?
