Samsung/Android marketing is as good at getting it's customers to part with their hard earned doubloons. Usually with "See? Ours has something Apple's doesn't." and in comes the cash...Disagree. Apple has bet that they can get away with having this flaw in the design until they figure out how to rectify it. You'll see that occur because their marketing campaign for the iPhone XI or XII will be telling you "No. More. Notch." Remember, Apple Marketing is very clever at manipulating the people into parting with their hard earned euros.
I think it was a design choice and a way to orient you to the screen. It doesn't bother me. My attention is on other areas of the screen so it really just disappears into the periphery and I don't even notice it.Hey guys, I didn’t really make this thread to blow sunshine up Apple’s dress. I’m not 100% in love with the notch myself.
But I also didn’t make it to extend the battleground about the stupid thing.
It reminded me of something simple and nice, and I just wanted to share that.
There are plenty of threads you can join to discuss how it heralds the demise of Apple (for the millionth time) or how you think it’s the greatest design choice ever, and bicker back and forth.
I’ve gotten some likes on the post and that’s nice. Seems like the people liking it are just liking it and leaving it at that.
So maybe either just like it and go about your business, or don’t. But find somewhere else to continue your battle. This started as just a simple contemplation. I don’t start threads to start wars. Fight it out somewhere else.
I mean we all want more battery life, but I've found the X's battery life to be at the very least on par with my 7 Plus. If the entire phone were extended to the thickness of the camera lens it'd be extremely chunky. More stainless steel to extend the chassis and more battery would result in a very heavy phone, too.
Very True. Could have been solid black bar, thus losing valuable screen real estate. This seems to be missed a lot. Everyone focuses on the notch taking away screen rather than the ears giving additional screen. Glass half full, I guess?
I've been traveling by air since I was a little kid. I would fly to my grandparents every year, and from age 8 on, I flew alone. (This was the 1970s, before the outrage brigade ruined everything) I was treated like royalty by the airlines. I was fascinated by planes and pilots and the view out the window and airports and all of it.
And I was off to grandma and grandpa's! Without parents! Which meant getting spoiled with toys, eating out, always having 2 desserts, no chores, a swimming pool, etc.
It was a magical time in my childhood.
Fast forward to yesterday when my iPhone X arrived. The first thing I do when I get a new phone is try some new wallpaper. As I scrolled through my camera roll wallpaper collection, I kept stopping at the sky images and trying them. For some reason, seeing the sky images as my lock screen made me smile and feel oddly calm and happy.
It wasn't til today that I figured out why...

The notch has been part of my visual vernacular for most of my life, and I subconsciously associate it with the carefree days of childhood, looking out the airplane window, on my way to grandma and grandpa's.
Jony Ive you sneaky bastard.
People hate the notch because for $1k they want a complete edge to edge display. All they get here is Apple Marketing selling something less.

The notch has always been there. The 'ears' are the additions.I think notch accepters are of the mindset "Because Apple." whereas most regular people look at it as a design flaw. It's simply not normal to have such a defect in full view of the screen. You can guarantee that it'll be gone when Apple figure out how to resolve the flaw.
