I agree entirely. I think most people only want to use and have available 3rd party apps. Most people don't want the "freedom" the throw any app of the phone and make it available.
If any 3rd party app began to be widely distributed in a manner sanctioned by Apple, and it was later revealed to have a serious security flaw that was not then quickly corrected, I get the impression people would want to blame Apple. I think Apple needs to move slowly in order to be responsible as well to the use of applications on such an information-sensitive device.
