Never going to happen.

:apple:

I wouldn't say that. The lineup for this year looks nice and clean with the 4", 4.7", and 5.5" at $99,$199,$299 respectively.

Next year, they could dominate by offering a "new" 4" iPhone in the 6-design, with 6 internals. For $99.

Yes please Apple/Jesus make this happen! A new iPhone in 4/4.7/5.5 options would covers just about every potential user.

Cool story bro

Thank you for your wonderful contribution.

OP: I believe if you return it then you do not forfeit your upgrade. Double check that for sure. As for the size, I am unsure whether Apple will ever release a phone again smaller than the 6. I figure that at best, this will be the smallest phone they continue to produce. If that is the case, whether I am fond of the size or not, I would have to get used to it or buy a 5S and use it well beyond Apple's intent to support that model. I have the 4S today and my 6 is on the way. I assume I will feel the reach but I don't see it as a problem. I don't care about maxing out my tapping ability and such. That's just me.

My first reaction to my Plus was very similar, but I powered through the weekend, got a leather case (never used a case before, but it makes it so grippable while staying slim) and now I my 5S looks comically small. I'm not even sure I'll give up my iPad yet, but I haven't touched it this weekend. I wear slim-fit pants and jeans and haven't had trouble (the outline shows, yes, but a smaller outline showed with my 5S too). I even went running twice using an armband and it was completely fine. Point is, we've all been accustomed to small devices, and for some, those are absolutely the right choice (they're excellent phones still!) but I think with a short adjustment time, either the 6 or 6+ will become completely manageable. Heck, I went to play with the 6 today because I was second guessing my jumbo but it seems very small in comparison now. Then again, I have large hands and flexible thumbs; I can thumb type comfortably on my iPad mini without split keyboard.

Not dismissing the problem one handed users are having, but I figure you either adapt now or later. Apple seems to have stopped development on anything under 4.7" so you will eventually reach a point where you are running 4+ year old hardware or go with the competition (most of whom have already long gone with larger screens).

The 2, 3 and 4 series were the best for one handed use.

Never worked out as well with my 5. A contributing factor was the keyboard. There was something different enough about it that my mistakes tripled compared to when I used the 4.

In my store testing I found that one handed typing was easier with the 6 and 6+. The letters are larger.

How is this possible when the screen is the same length?

Time Capsule only has 1 size.
iPod has Shuffle, Nano, and Touch. 3 sizes

No it comes in 2TB and 3TB.

The shuffle is almost a dead product.

But you get the point. Apple is a 2-option company. Get used to it.

You don't have big hands if you're struggling with the 4.7. Either you aren't used to it yet or you're cee lo green.

I find the same. There is something about the 5s that I can't quite grip it comfortably so can't really type or use it one handed sometimes, so the 6 makes little difference to my usage. If anything it will probably get rid of my frustration by forcing me in those same situations to go 2 hands on 6 naturally. But there are times and uses where the 5 design is perfect for one handed use. Oh well times change, time waits for no man...neither does apple it seems

Oh... another one of these threads.

I have small hands. I have no problems with HTC One M8. HTC One M8 is bigger than iPhone 6. Can't wait to get my iPhone 6.

Let me start by saying I've gotten every new iPhone that's come out since the 3G, without fail, at either launch or pre-order. So I did the same for the 6, and after two days of using it I've decided to return it.

The reason for this is one-handed use. I love being able to hold and manipulate my phone in one hand, and for me the 5S fits comfortably in the sweet spot.

With the 6, my hand feels over-extended ever so slightly, and I have large hands so that's saying a lot. Also, when I'm lying down and reading the phone between my hands, the 6 puts pressure on the inside of my palms in a way that the 5S did not. Finally my thumb getting to the top of the screen requires extra extension. This might seem like a minor thing but with a lot of daily use, it adds up. I tried the double-tap thing but those taps also add up!

So after a weekend of use, I've asked myself: is it worth it? The answer is no. I think I'm going to miss the potential NFC the most. And the rounded edges feel very sexy. But battery life is only slightly better, I still can't get through a day with one charge (I'm a heavy user). The extra screen real estate is nice but not at the expense of one-hand use. I always have my iPad if I want to do something that requires a bigger screen.

So for the first time in my iPhone obsession, I'm forfeiting an upgrade, returning the 6, and praying that next year Apple will improve the guts of the 5S without increasing its size.

My wife feels the same about one handed use but she is going to just get used to it. Smartphones are not going to get smaller any time soon so you might as well get used to it sooner rather than later.

I know how you feel. I've had every iPhone but the 6 is the only one that I didn't adjust to quickly. I have man-sized hands (I can confidently grip an iPad Air one-handed) but I keep shifting the new phone up and down to reach the upper-right and lower-left corners when I'm using my right hand. I have the Apple Leather case to help with the grippiness because those rounded corners and sides are way too slippery. Every other iPhone I've had has always been in a thin shell case with matte plastic finish for the extra grip too.
I've been carrying the 5S (activated) and 6 (wifi only) at the same time to try to get used to the difference in size. I like the extra pixels and can't wait to use Apple Pay, so I'd hate to return the 6.
I agree that there's probably no going back to an iPhone smaller than 4.7", so I really just need to suck it up and use the 6 as my daily phone.

While I have the 6 plus, I agee that there's some advantages to the smaller 4" display for portability and use. Your use of the device will dictate what works best for you. Some may prefer to have a 4 inch for on the go and come home to an iPad, others may find a larger phone does everything they need. I hope apple will not phase out the smaller phone as time goes on. It would be amazing if they continue that size with a focus of making it thinner and functional, but not necessarily the most advance compare to their top tier phone.

Honestly, a more advance thinner 4" phone would make a great combo with the Apple Watch, in terms of price, portability and sport use.

I loved the portability of my 5, but the 6 is so much better in every other way. I wouldn't give up the touch id, bigger screen, faster speed and other new features to go back to the smaller phone. I have my space gray, iPhone 6 in a black leather Apple case and it is here to stay. It fits in my purse and most pockets without any real problem.

If you struggle with 4.7 phone you have TINY hands. Not a bad thing, but even my girlfriend manages to use her 4.7 phone with one hand. And she's tiny. I mean, cmon.

As odd a statement as this is, I actually had the exact same experience but never wrote it off to anything other than just my own clumsiness. I never had as many problems with the 4S typing as I did with the 5 and it still baffles me. Alas.

I just went to AT&T and tested the regular 6. I will 1000000000% be returning my plus for that instead- it is the perfect size.

There is no need to over generalize something of this sort.

My wife was not of the 6 that she played with, and her main gripe was one handed use. She felt she could not comfortably reach all the way across the keyboard.

I'm hoping to change her mind as I don't want her stuck behind, using the 5s forever. But you can't argue with what one person likes vs. another.

Apple should not get away from 4" altogether. IMO it is perfectly fine for them to keep the 5s for this year, as the 4" device at $99. But come next year, they need to have a newer solution for the 4" line, even if it is what will then be "last year's" specs....at $99.

the iphone 6 is to big for a screen of its size. i wish they would have gone with something with dimensions similar to the z3 compact
